La Baume can be explored through two distinct themes: trails through the forest and along the water, and religious heritage. If you want to choose a short walk based on specific details, the “Balade au Nant de la Scie” is a circular route with clearly stated figures. The “Circuit patrimoine de La Baume” focuses on several religious sites. When planning, you can decide whether to prioritise route length and walking time or a trail to cultural sites.
Hiking trails by the water and across the alpine pasture
The “Balade au Nant de la Scie” is an easy 2.0 km circular walk. The estimated walking time is about 30 minutes, with an ascent and descent of 71 metres each. The distance, approximate duration and elevation profile give you a concrete basis for estimating how much time this short walk will take.
The route crosses the Nant de la Scie twice before reaching the hamlet of La Goutreuse. These two crossings and the destination add specific points along the route to the figures.
The “Le bord de la Dranse” trail runs through the forest beside the water; here, the Dranse forms broad meanders, and access is very easy. The Seytrouset alpine pasture can be reached via larger trails.
The “Randonnée pédestre: de hameaux en villages” hiking route also passes through La Baume and several other places. Check seasonal conditions before setting out.
The Balade and the trail along the Dranse have different focuses: for the Balade, the distance, approximate walking time and elevation gain are clearly specified; the “Le bord de la Dranse” trail foregrounds the forest, the river meanders and its very easy access. This lets you choose between a circular walk with a defined timeframe and a trail through a river landscape.
Religious heritage sites in La Baume
The “Circuit patrimoine de La Baume” heritage trail leads to the village’s religious heritage sites: the church, the chapel in Le Promerat, several wayside shrines and the Grotte Notre Dame de Lourdes. It starts at the cemetery car park near the grotto. This gives you a specific starting point for finding your way along the heritage trail.
The Grotte Notre Dame de Lourdes is carved into the rock. It lies beyond the village centre, beside the road to La Goutreuse. The chapel, which is also part of the Circuit, stands in the hamlet of Le Promerat.
The Église de l’Immaculée Conception de La Baume is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and was built in the 19th century. Its organ dates from 1872, is listed as a historic monument and is still mechanically operated. The heritage trail leads to the church; individual, self-guided visits are possible there on request. If you plan such a visit, request it in advance.
