Saint-Pierre-En-Faucigny offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay focused on nature and cultural heritage. Villa Cohendier brings together the environment, local heritage and biodiversity with the town’s development, while Parc Cohendier is shaped by a central pond and old watercourses. Other highlights include Cohendier Fortified House, a protected bell and Chapelle des Evaux. Depending on whether you want to focus on interactive interpretation, a walk or historical landmarks, you can take different approaches to your visit.

The Environment and Urban Development at Villa Cohendier

Villa Cohendier is a public interpretation centre for the environment, local cultural heritage and biodiversity. Interactive and sensory exhibits invite visitors to explore local biodiversity and the town’s development. This combination makes the villa a destination in its own right: nature and local history are presented together through the facilities on site.

The year-round programme includes workshops, guided tours, demonstrations, conferences and live performances. Saint-Pierre-En-Faucigny also collaborates annually with the national organisation Les concerts de Poche, welcoming internationally renowned musicians. Individual programme dates may change, so check the schedule in advance if a particular event is important to your trip.

Pond, Watercourses and a Walk

Parc Cohendier brings nature to the fore through its layout: a central pond defines the park, and old watercourses run through it. The park helps protect local biodiversity, including squirrels, birds and pond fish. There is a restriction on animals in the park to support this protection; please take this rule into account when visiting. While Villa Cohendier explores the environment and urban development, the focus at Parc Cohendier is on the landscape and its protection.

For a walk, consider the Circuit de la Pierre de Boëre. This accessible route follows paths and small roads to the Pierre de Boëre site. Its named destination and the route there give this activity a different character from a visit to an interpretation centre. When planning your day, you can choose between a walk with a defined destination and the thematic offerings at the villa.

Landmarks of Local History

Cohendier Fortified House is a fortified residence dating from the 14th century. The “Marie-Françoise” bell is located in the Church of Saint-Pierre, Saint-Maurice et Saint-Antoine in Saint-Pierre-En-Faucigny. It has been protected as a movable cultural object since 19 October 1942. Chapelle des Evaux adds another landmark with a clear date: it was built in 1867 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary under the title of the Immaculate Conception.

These dates answer different questions: the 14th century dates the fortified residence, 1867 marks the construction and dedication of the chapel, and 1942 marks the start of the bell’s protection. This distinction helps to separate building history, religious dedication and cultural heritage protection. When choosing cultural interests, you can consider individual buildings and a movable cultural object, each with its own historical context.
