Duingt on Lac d’Annecy offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: traces of early settlement, paths through the old village, viewpoints and a lakeside beach. Several routes start in the municipality, including a short walking trail and a longer hiking route. This lets you plan your day around your preferred distance or a particular place, without treating the different destinations as one and the same.

Island history and paths through the village

Remains of piles from prehistoric pile dwellings have been preserved on Roselet Island. Châteauvieux has a different historical background: the castle was built on an island around the 11th or 12th century and is closed to the public. The two places offer different insights into Duingt’s history; the fact that Châteauvieux is closed should be taken into account when planning a visit.

The lanes of the old village also lead to a viewpoint at the Grotte Notre-Dame du Lac. The “Duingt à l'abri des regards” route combines the character of the village with a walk through the hamlet of Dhéré. It is 3.7 kilometres long, rated very easy, and starts in Duingt. Trail conditions and seasonal access may change; check before setting out. Bus routes 15A, 15B and Y51 are listed for this route, with a stop at the Church of Duingt. As routes and stop arrangements may change, it is worth checking the current timetable.

Another cultural landmark is Héré Château. The château dates from the Renaissance and can be seen while climbing towards Entrevernes. It adds a different perspective on the region’s architecture to the historical traces in the village and on the islands.

Lakeshore and viewpoints

Duingt’s municipal beach is a grassy, partly shaded lakeside beach opposite Châteauvieux. Toilets and refreshments are available on site; these facilities may vary seasonally. A cycle path also runs near the beach. The beach, its facilities and the cycle path are practical landmarks when planning your time by the lake.

Two viewpoints overlooking the large and small basins of Lac d’Annecy are on Mount Taillefer. The first can be reached after a 15-minute walk at the Grotte Notre-Dame du Lac. There is also a circular hiking route on Taillefer that starts in Duingt and leads to the former Bredannaz quarry and a high-altitude viewpoint. After severe weather, check the route and viewpoint locally. The two Taillefer viewpoints and the hiking loop can be considered separate points of reference for an excursion; no walking time for the full loop is specified.

Routes and activities from Duingt

Comparing distances can help when choosing between the routes described: “Duingt à l'abri des regards” covers 3.7 kilometres and is rated very easy; the Duingt–Saint-Jorioz route is 12 kilometres long, is also rated very easy, and starts in Duingt. The distances distinguish the two options but do not, on their own, indicate how long they take. Snow and weather may affect conditions on the longer route.

If you are considering a cycling loop instead of a hike, there is another way to explore the area: the cycling loop around Lac d’Annecy passes the Duingt tunnel and follows a greenway built on a former railway line. Duingt’s pump track is a closed circuit with two tracks for mountain bikes, BMX bikes, scooters, skates and roller skates. It is accessible year-round, weather and snow permitting. So, alongside the walking trails, the cycle route and pump track offer distinct activities to choose from.

Duingt offers a range of specific themes to explore, without implying any set order for a visit.
