The Glacier d'Argentière flows towards the village it is named after. Argentiere also offers cross-country skiing, hiking trails with different destinations, and cultural attractions to consider for your trip.

Hiking trails with different destinations

The Balade de la Moraine d'Argentière leads to a viewpoint overlooking the glacier gorge. The randonnée du Péclerey offers a different panorama: from there, you can see the Aiguilles Rouges. The two hikes therefore differ in their respective viewpoints—one overlooks the glacier gorge, the other the named mountain range.

The hike to the Lacs des Cheserys from Argentière takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes and leads to the Chalets du Chéserys at an altitude of 1,998 metres. The stated time and elevation provide a concrete basis for planning this hike, without describing the other routes in the same way. The Petit-Balcon routes also follow different paths: the Petit Balcon Sud connects Argentière with Servoz. The Petit Balcon Nord: Le Tour–Argentière runs between Le Tour and Argentière along the north side of the valley.

The viewpoints, the high-altitude destination and the connections between places offer different considerations when choosing a hike. Trail conditions can change; check the latest conditions before setting out.

Cross-country skiing, climbing and getting to the ski area

The Domaine nordique d'Argentière has around 15 kilometres of groomed trails for classic cross-country skiing and skating. Availability depends on snow conditions, so if you plan to go cross-country skiing, check the conditions for your travel dates.

The Site d'escalade de la Joux has around 50 climbing routes, ranging in height from 5 to 70 metres. Access depends on conditions. Gare d'Argentière is the railway station closest to the Grands Montets ski area. If you plan to use this station to get to the ski area, check transport conditions before your trip.

Architecture, farms and local activities

The Église Saint-Pierre d'Argentière was built in 1726 in the Baroque style. Its altarpiece was listed as a historic monument in 1912. These two dates refer to different events: the construction of the church and the later listing of the altarpiece.

The hamlet of Le Tour is another cultural point of interest described here, with old, traditional farms. A different kind of activity is Au Fil du Rail, a 3-kilometre-long, fun and educational trail in Argentiere. It can be completed alone or with your family. The Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix also welcomes visitors at its office in Argentiere; if you plan a visit, check the current opening hours in advance.
