Between Recoubeau and Jansac, a balcony-like road connects the two villages and offers views of the Vercors. At an elevation of 700 metres, Jansac adds a second, more specific landscape feature: a view of the citadel. There is also a marked circular trail, farm experiences and a historical connection to the year 1030. Recoubeau-Jansac therefore offers a variety of highlights that can be considered in terms of views, activities, farm visits and local history.
Farm experiences, from cheese to guided visits
Ferme du Rif Papier in Recoubeau-Jansac is an organic farm. It processes all of its milk into various cheeses, including Picodon AOP in particular. Its products are sold at local markets, in shops in the Diois and directly from the farm. Visits are possible by prior arrangement, so a farm visit should be planned in advance.
A tourism listing for Ferme Capribouq, updated on 30 October 2025, mentions a guided tour of the goat barn, contact with the animals, tastings and a farm shop. The farms therefore offer different experiences: Rif Papier combines organic milk processing with cheese production, while the Capribouq listing mentions a barn tour, contact with the animals and tastings. This makes it possible to distinguish between a farm that produces cheese and a listed visit experience focused on the goat barn.
A marked circular hike
The marked Le pas de la Pousterle circular trail starts and ends in Recoubeau-Jansac. It is listed as 8.5 kilometres long, taking four hours, with 670 metres of ascent. The duration provides a time frame for the hike; distance and ascent add further key details about the route. A separate closure notice applies to the trail. Check access restrictions before setting out.
Views and architecture
The balcony-like road connecting Recoubeau and Jansac offers views of the Vercors. Jansac lies at an elevation of 700 metres and offers a view of the Vercors citadel. These are two clearly defined landscape features: the view along the connecting road and the view of the citadel from Jansac. The reconstructed Château de Recoubeau is not open to visitors, but its Renaissance silhouette can be seen from the outside. Plan to view the château’s exterior architecture, not to visit its interior.
Recoubeau in 1030
In 1030, Recoubeau was a fief of the bishops of Die, over which they were in conflict with the Count of Valentinois. The year and the two named parties to the conflict provide a temporal and political context for this historical connection.
Planning by activity
The planning considerations for your stay vary depending on what you want to do: for the circular trail, consider the stated duration and closure notice; for a visit to Rif Papier, arrange it in advance. These are different selection criteria: a measured route with a separate closure notice on the one hand, and a scheduled farm visit on the other.
