If you are considering Savasse as a destination for a stay, you will find specific points of interest in its local history, botany and views. Historic buildings are at the heart of the Old Village; the hiking trails also have their own appeal. You can tailor your exploration to whether the town center, a botanical trail or a route with panoramic views is of particular interest to you.
Old Village: History and Views
The fortification walls of the Old Village were built in the 12th and 13th centuries. The Old Village is the historic heart of Savasse and offers impressive views over the Valdaine plain and the Montélimar basin. This brings together local history and views of two named landscapes.
Rue du Vieux Village is also noteworthy as a viewing balcony: it offers a panoramic vista whose appearance varies with the seasons. If you are interested in the town’s viewpoints, this street is one of the places described for its views, along with the Old Village itself.
Hikes with Different Highlights
The marked Sentier botanique runs above the Old Village and starts at the cemetery car park. Around 50 information panels cover local plant species, making botany the focus of this trail. The starting point and panels give your exploration a specific connection to Savasse’s plant life.
Le tour des remparts is a 2-kilometer circular trail with a stated duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Panorama de Savasse hike begins and ends in Savasse and is also marked. It leads to the highest point in the municipality and to the Belvédère du relais, which offers 360-degree views of the surrounding area. The two trails therefore differ mainly in their described features: the length and duration are given for Le tour des remparts, while Panorama de Savasse leads to the highest point and a panoramic vista.
Notre-Dame-la-Blanche and Planning Your Visit
The Notre-Dame-la-Blanche church stands at the eastern end of the Old Village and dates from around the 12th century. It is a Cluniac site and has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments since July 17, 1926. Its location in the historic town center makes it a specific point of interest for anyone who would like to learn more about Savasse’s architectural history.
A visit to the church can be arranged through the Savasse town hall secretary’s office. As the contact procedure may change, check in advance how visits are currently arranged. The visitor facilities in the Old Village are open daily year-round and admission is free; check opening hours and access again before you arrive. This allows you to fit the historic sites, views and a trail into your stay according to your interests.
