In Treffort-Cuisiat, visitor highlights range from the Musée du Revermont in Cuisiat to the historic traces in Treffort and the leisure activities at La Grange du Pin. When planning a stay, it helps to consider these highlights separately: the museum garden and cultural heritage, swimming and fishing, and various cycling and walking options each offer different points of interest.

Museum and cultural heritage

The Musée du Revermont is housed in a renovated former town hall and school building in Cuisiat. The museum includes a conservation vegetable and fruit garden where more than 650 local, unusual or forgotten plant species are cultivated. Alongside the museum building, the garden offers its own perspective on the diversity of plants maintained in the region.

The museum also presents the heritage of an area once shaped by viticulture and the clay used for the famous Meillonnas faience. This faience is characterised by its colours and patterns. The former wine-growing culture is also represented in Treffort: today, Comté cheese has replaced the former “p’tit vin” of the Cavets. The local history therefore spans everything from faience and its motifs to changes in the region’s agricultural character.

Château history and townscape in Treffort

Treffort has preserved its medieval layout and winegrowers’ houses, with historic fountains lining the streets. Its defensive past is reflected in a former covered walkway, the privately owned remains of the château and the former town walls on the valley side. These traces provide several tangible points of reference for the town’s history, though the privately owned château remains should not be considered a visitor area.

The museum at Château de Treffort offers a tour through ten rooms. It covers the château’s history, from its construction in the Middle Ages to its renovation by Tony Ferret in the 20th century. The museum and park at Château de Treffort can be visited independently. As seasonal access conditions may change, check them before your visit.

Family-friendly historical activities include an outdoor area with games from earlier times for children aged five and over, a screening of an illustrated, subtitled story, and reproductions of historical weapons from different periods. The individual programme may change; check in advance which activities will be available during your visit.

Water and activities at La Grange du Pin

At La Grange du Pin in Cuisiat, an eight-hectare stretch of water is used for swimming and fishing. A developed path runs around it. Other leisure activities include hiking, mountain biking and a treetop adventure course. This means activities on the water sit alongside other opportunities to get active outdoors. Individual activities may change; check the current conditions before your visit.

Cycling routes with different itineraries

The “L'Ain à Vélo – Le mégatour de la montagne de l'Ain” route starts at the Base de Loisirs La Grange du Pin in Cuisiat; its first stage passes through Cuisiat and Pressiat. The black mountain bike loop no. 1 follows a different route: it goes from the Musée du Revermont via the Chapelle de Montfort, then descends directly to Cuisiat. You can use these specific place references to help choose a route. As trail conditions may change, check them before setting out.

Mont Châtel in Val-Revermont

In Pressiat in Val-Revermont, Mont Châtel lies between Mont Myon and Montfort. It is one of the rare Merovingian hilltop settlements in France documented through archaeological excavations. The summit can be reached by a moderately strenuous hike through the forest, taking about 30 minutes, and offers a particularly lovely view. When planning, take into account both the approximate duration and the hike’s demanding nature; access conditions may change.
