A trip to Lalleyriat can be built around water, hiking trails or local heritage. At the lake, there is a seasonally supervised swimming area and access for other activities; the hikes differ in their landscapes and route details. There is also a ski and snowshoe link, as well as a launch site for flying activities. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Lalleyriat, you can start by considering which of these options you would like to shape your stay.
Access to the water at the lake
At the Plan d’eau de Lalleyriat, there is a 200 m² swimming area that is supervised in summer. The lake is also a year-round destination for nature-based leisure activities. A path accessible to everyone, with benches, runs around the water. For people with reduced mobility, an adapted seat and an access mat make it possible to enter the water. Anglers can access the water via platforms built around the shore. The options by the water therefore vary by activity: walking, swimming and fishing.
Hiking trails with different landmarks
The “Le tour de la Grande Montagne” hike leads into the wide hollows of the Plateau de Retord and up to the ridge. Views along the route include the Monts du Jura and the chaîne du Mont Blanc; the route ends at Lac de Lalleyriat. The “Le Rocher – Parcours de trail n° 28” trail runs around the centre of Lalleyriat and the Plan d’eau de Lalleyriat. It is more than 10 km long and includes almost 400 metres of ascent. Views along this trail include the Haut-Bugey and the haute chaîne du Jura. The Vierge de Lalleyriat, a named place of devotion, is also along the route.
The trails offer different highlights: “Le tour de la Grande Montagne” focuses on the landscape and its destination at Lac de Lalleyriat. For “Le Rocher,” the distance, ascent and route around the village centre and lake are useful landmarks. This allows you to choose a hike based on the destinations and features specified for each one.
Ronde des Fours and local history
The Ronde des Fours is a traditional event celebrating local heritage, held around Lalleyriat’s renovated oven. The 2026 event programme includes three marked hiking routes of 6, 8 and 14 km, where you can discover the communal ovens. At one edition of the event, four ovens were used to serve nearly 500 guests, with breads, cakes, gratins and roasts, as well as lasagne and pizzas. If you would like to plan your trip around the Ronde des Fours, check the event date in advance.
Lalleyriat’s church is also part of the village’s history: it was built in 1840. Together with the Ronde des Fours, it offers a historical connection distinct from the nature and outdoor activities at the lake and along the hiking trails.
Skiing, snowshoeing and flying activities
A ski and snowshoe link leads from the Plan d’eau de Lalleyriat to the “porte de Cuvéry” access point and the Chapelle de Retord. For a different kind of outdoor activity, there is the “POIZAT-LALLEYRIAT – L'ANGLETON” launch site: it is located in Lalleyriat at an altitude of 1,163 m and is used for paragliding and hang gliding.
