Sannes lies at the foot of the Grand Luberon massif and brings together landscapes, historical sites, and cultural and culinary experiences. When planning your stay, it helps to first decide what matters most to you: nature and outdoor activities, history, or local produce and culture.

Landscapes of the Grand Luberon

At the lieu-dit Castellas, at around 350 metres, lies the highest point in Sannes. The trails in Sannes offer views of the mountain and the surrounding villages. Castellas is therefore a clear topographical landmark, while the trails draw your gaze towards the mountain and villages. Watercourses also shape the landscape. They are bordered by riverside vegetation, which contrasts with the agricultural and vineyard landscapes they pass through. In terms of what matters to you, the views focus on the mountain and villages, while the watercourses make the contrast in the landscape visible.

Hiking, Cycling and Cherry Blossoms

Hiking and cycling are among the main activities in Sannes. In spring, the trails around the orchards are filled with the fragrance of cherry blossoms. This is a useful distinction when choosing your season: the blossoms are specifically associated with spring, while hiking and cycling are the main outdoor activities. Cherries with the protected geographical indication (IGP) “Cerises du Ventoux” are also grown in Sannes. This means the seasonal experience of the blossoms and local cherry production can be seen as two sides of the same agricultural theme.

Traces of History

Sannes’ history includes archaeological finds and a rural priory. Fragments of a sarcophagus dating from the late 4th century were found near the Chapelle Saint-Pierre; a Gallo-Roman necropolis was discovered near the Ferme des Clots. The Prieuré de Bénédictins Saint-Pierre dates from the 12th or 13th century. These sites therefore differ both in type and date: the necropolis and sarcophagus fragments point to the Gallo-Roman and Late Antique periods, while the priory belongs to a much later period. If you like to place historical subjects in chronological order, the story spans the archaeological finds through to the medieval priory.

Culture and Tastings

The Château de Sannes opens its doors year-round and offers a varied programme of concerts, art exhibitions, literary events, watercolour classes and DJ sets. Individual events may change. The château also offers tastings of AOP Luberon wines and organically produced olive oil; this offering may also change. Cultural events and tastings are different types of experiences to consider when planning your stay.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide what matters most for your trip: the trails and scenery, spring cherry blossoms, historical sites, or culture and tastings. If a particular concert, class or tasting is a deciding factor for you, check the date or availability in advance.
