In Sérignan-Du-Comtat, you can discover nature from different perspectives: at the Naturoptère, on the grounds Jean-Henri Fabre used as an observation site, and along a botanical educational trail. There are also studios, a protected church building and opportunities to learn about wines. You can therefore shape your stay around your interests rather than focusing all your visits on a single theme.

Nature and Jean-Henri Fabre

The Naturoptère is an educational and cultural centre devoted to insects and nature. Its year-round programme includes exhibitions, events, training courses, talks, film screenings, workshops and evening events. The activities taking place during your visit may vary, so check the current programme in advance. The grounds are also part of the centre’s connection with nature: a naturalistic garden surrounds a large part of the building.

The Harmas Jean-Henri Fabre offers another way to explore nature. The estate covers one hectare; Jean-Henri Fabre used its uncultivated land as an observation site. The tour takes you through the house and garden and is accompanied by an audio guide featuring the naturalist’s recollections and quotations. Three historic rooms offer a glimpse into his private world through their design, furnishings and historic objects. Nature observation and personal life sit side by side here, without requiring you to choose the same kind of visit as at the Naturoptère.

If you would rather combine the subject with a hike, consider the “Sur les pas de Jean-Henri Fabre” botanical educational trail. It starts in Sérignan-Du-Comtat and combines walking with learning about the area’s rich floral diversity. The route offers a distinct focus: it centres on movement and plant diversity, while the Naturoptère and Harmas provide different insights into nature and observation.

Studios and local history

Art lovers will also find plenty to explore. The Musée Lichtner-Aix displays the artist’s former workspaces across three floors. The ground floor houses the engraving studio, with a lithographic press and an etching press. The two upper floors contain the drawing and painting studios, with a worktable and easel. The furnishings make it easy to understand the different work areas in the building.

Werner Lichtner-Aix’s studio in Sérignan-Du-Comtat has been open to the public since 1989. The parish church of Saint-Étienne adds a protected building to the town’s history: it was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 23 June 1978. A cultural stay can therefore encompass several different subjects—artists’ studios, historic rooms at the Harmas and a listed church building.

Wine and practical planning

There are two different places to start if you want to learn about local wines. The Maison Sérina cooperative has a shop and tasting area in Sérignan-Du-Comtat; check the current opening details before your visit. Domaine de la Renjarde produces wines under the Côtes du Rhône Villages Massif d’Uchaux, Côtes du Rhône Villages and Côtes du Rhône appellations. Visitors are welcomed in the cellar, but booking in advance is recommended. Confirm your visit before you travel.

The regional ZOU! bus route 903, which runs between Orange and Valréas, serves the Naturoptère. The “Rond Point de l’Harmas” stop is in Sérignan-Du-Comtat, 550 metres from the Naturoptère entrance. If you plan to use this service, check the current route and timetable before travelling. This makes it easy to plan a visit to the nature centre, while other local attractions can take centre stage depending on your interests—art, history, hiking or wine.
