In Caromb, different discoveries come together: the Église Saint Maurice, with its Romanesque architectural history, the Provençal market and the town’s fig speciality. At Lac du Paty, picnicking, hiking and swimming are among the options—although swimming is restricted to the opening hours of the Buvette. For planning purposes, the village and the lake can be treated as distinct highlights; a marked circular trail is dedicated to exploring the village.

Churches and traditions in Caromb

The Église Saint Maurice is one of the largest churches in the Vaucluse département and is listed as a historic monument. It was built in the early 14th century and retains regional features of Romanesque churches, including buttresses along the nave. Its construction date and architectural style give the church a clear historical context, without requiring you to combine several attractions.

Another distinctive feature is the organ from 1702, built by Pierre Galeran and Charles Boisselin. Its stops and case, with five Italian-style panels, are listed as protected. The church therefore brings together two different periods: the building from the early 14th century and the instrument from the early 18th century.

The Chapelle du Paty is also associated with a specific tradition. It was built as an oratory and dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire, the Virgin Mary. Processions are still held at the chapel twice a year: for Saint Joseph on 19 March and for Notre Dame on 8 September. They include a mass and a social gathering. If you would like to plan your visit around one of these dates, check the event schedule in advance.

Lac du Paty: picnicking, hiking and swimming

There is an area at Lac du Paty that families use for picnics. Hiking is also possible around the lake; in addition, the GR de Pays Tour des Dentelles de Montmirail long-distance trail runs alongside Lac du Paty. This offers a different way to explore the surroundings from the circular route through the village: here, the lake is the focus, while the GR passes through as a long-distance trail.

Swimming in Lac du Paty is permitted during the Buvette’s opening hours. If you are planning your visit specifically for a swim, check the Buvette’s seasonal opening times. This condition is important when planning your day: picnicking and hiking are listed as options by the lake, while swimming is explicitly restricted to opening hours.

A circular trail through the village

The Chemin de Séraphin No. 1 is marked in blue and is designed for exploring the village. This easy circular trail takes one hour to complete. That gives you a specific time frame for this part of your stay. By contrast, the GR de Pays Tour des Dentelles de Montmirail runs alongside Lac du Paty; the two trails are therefore associated with different places and trail types. If you are looking for a manageable village route, the Chemin de Séraphin is a good guide.

Market, wine and figs

The Provençal market in Caromb takes place year-round every Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If you want to plan your stay around the market, set aside Tuesday morning and check the date again before you travel. La Cave Saint-Marc offers advice from qualified staff for tastings of regional wines. If you are planning this tasting specifically, ask about current visiting arrangements in advance.

The Figue noire de Caromb is named as one of the town’s culinary specialities. The Figueraie du Paty offers another perspective on figs: it has 49 fig trees, with a total of 45 different varieties. This allows you to consider a named local product and the variety of figs grown in the orchard as two distinct aspects of the subject. The Figueraie is open to visitors free of charge every day; check the access conditions before you travel.
