Hiking trails with different stated durations
The Circuit découverte – Visite du Village can be completed independently. Information boards present the history, monuments and historic buildings of Le Plan-de-la-Tour. Practical access information may change, so check it before setting out.
The Les Hameaux route is 4.5 kilometres long and rated easy. This family-friendly walk passes through the countryside near the village; the stated walking time is one hour. The route is also suitable for mountain bikers.
The marked Chemin vers le San Peire is a six-kilometre out-and-back route with 370 metres of elevation gain; the stated duration is two hours. It passes the ruins of the oppidum and continues to the summit of San Peire, where there is a viewpoint. The stated durations differ: one hour for Les Hameaux and two hours for the Chemin vers le San Peire; only San Peire also has 370 metres of elevation gain listed.
Les Gorgues is an easy 5.2-kilometre route, suitable for walkers and mountain bikers. It passes through wooded hills between hamlets and vineyards. The Menhir du Pra-Bourdin, also known as the Menhir du Pré de la Pierre Enchantée, lies along the trail. Its origins date back to the Neolithic period. The combination of the trail and this prehistoric monument gives the route a different focus from the village circuit or the ascent to San Peire.
Hamlets and historic buildings
The village landscape includes 25 hamlets scattered across the hills. Tour Paulety gave the municipality its name and was built in the 14th century by Antoine Paulety, a notary from Grimaud. Today's Saint Martin church also stands in a hamlet of that name: it was built in 1785 to replace a chapel that had become too small. The tower and the church thus tell of different chapters in the village's history.
In the hamlet of Revest stands Le Four du Revest, an 18th-century oven. It was used mainly for baking bread and remained in operation until the 1930s.
The San Peire site preserves the remains of a fortified settlement on a hilltop. The defensive wall is 30 metres long and four metres thick. Together with the ruins of the oppidum along the Chemin vers le San Peire, it provides a distinct historical connection for this route.
The Les mines de Vallaury route also combines a walk with the municipality's mining history. It lies within the territory of Le Plan-de-la-Tour; in the distance, the view extends across the Gulf of Sainte-Maxime to Saint-Tropez. Here, a theme from local history and a wide-ranging landscape view sit side by side.
Another option by mountain bike
Those planning to ride a mountain bike will find routes with different ratings: Les Hameaux and Les Gorgues are rated easy, while Parcours 5 for VTT and VTTAE is rated difficult. It carries the FFC label, crosses the Préconil and follows shaded paths alongside vineyards. The options described can therefore be compared by activity and stated difficulty, without assuming the same level of challenge for every route.
