The protected coastal area of Cap Bénat covers 75.44 hectares and is open to the public. The landscape ranges from vineyards and hills covered with cork oaks to coastal forests of Aleppo pines and stone pines, sandy beaches, rocky headlands and steep cliffs. Cap Bénat therefore offers more than just one type of coastline: nature, coastal features and architecture provide different focal points for a stay.

Coastal Landscape and Wildlife

The wooded hills are also visited by wild boar, red foxes, European badgers, weasels, stone martens and Mediterranean tortoises. Together with the different types of forest, they create a natural landscape shaped by more than just beaches and the sea. If you want to plan your trip around landscapes and nature, both the wooded heights and the sandy beaches and rocky coastal features are among the distinctive aspects of Cap Bénat.

Architecture Between Terrain and Patio

The Village des Fourches in the Domaine du Gaou Bénat has been awarded the “Architecture contemporaine remarquable” label by the French Ministry of Culture. Its houses follow the contours of the terrain. Terraces and gardens are landscaped with native plants; walls made of locally sourced natural stone help the buildings blend visually into their natural surroundings. André Lefèvre-Devaux and Jean Aubert were commissioned to build the 240 holiday homes; the construction years given are 1961 and 1978.

Another architectural landmark is Villa l'Esquillette in the Domaine du Cap Bénat. Philip Johnson designed it in 1964; it has the “patrimoine XXe” label. The villa consists of five separate pavilions arranged around a patio and connected by open-air walkways. While the Village des Fourches is described in terms of how its houses adapt to the terrain and blend visually into their surroundings, the villa is notable for its layout around the patio. The two buildings therefore offer different points of interest if you are interested in architecture.

Coastal Paths, Water Sports and Views

Walkways have been installed along the coastal paths at Gaou-Bénat to help limit erosion. Check the current condition of the paths before setting out. The section connecting the Favière–Cap Blanc coastal path section with the Cabasson–Pellegrin section is separate: it is currently closed to the public under a municipal safety order. If these sections are important to your plans, check in advance whether the closure is still in effect.

On the water, the Yacht Club du Gaou Bénat offers seasonal activities: the club rents kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, catamarans and dinghies, and offers private lessons. If you are interested, check availability directly with the club for your travel dates. These water-based activities complement the opportunities to explore the coastal landscape and its paths.

The Sémaphore de Bénat is located above Cap Bénat. It offers exceptional views of the islands of Port-Cros and Le Levant. If you would like to include the Sémaphore in your plans, check access arrangements in advance.

Choosing Cap Bénat as a Destination

When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: would you like to explore the coastal landscape, learn about the architecture or plan some water sports? These themes appeal to different interests and give your trip a clear focus. When considering a specific accommodation offer, take its location into account to make sure it suits your planned stay.
