Medieval buildings, prehistoric sites, wine experiences and paths through forests and hills give Les Arcs Sur Argens a range of distinct attractions. When planning your visit, it helps to distinguish between these highlights: some lead to art and architecture, others to agro-industrial history, wine or nature. This way, you can tailor your stay to the topics that interest you most.

Medieval Buildings and Art

In the medieval district of Le Parage, the Tour Sarrasine was built in the 12th century. The castle tower rises 19 metres above the town. Four gates provide access to the district: Porte du Réal, Porte Milante, Porte de l’Horloge and Porte Haute. Together, the tower and the named access points offer concrete ways to explore the district’s architecture.

The Chapelle Sainte-Roseline offers a distinct artistic highlight. It has been classified as a historic monument since 1980 and houses a large mosaic by Marc Chagall. The chapel thus brings together a clearly identified piece of heritage and a large-scale work of art.

Industrial History and Olive Oil

The Bastide Sainte-Cécile is an example of 18th-century agro-industrial heritage; the site dates back to 1762. Its history includes a former silkworm-rearing building and oil mills. The complex contained almost ten settling basins and three mills, powered by a single waterwheel. These figures make the site’s technical scale tangible: alongside the buildings, the basins, mills and shared power source also tell the story of its former use.

The complex also includes the Olive Oil Ecomuseum. Its immersive tour traces the process from harvesting olives to making oil, using interactive, holographic and augmented-reality elements. Visiting hours may vary; check the current schedule in advance.

Wine Tastings and Oenology Courses

The Maison des Vins CĂ´tes de Provence in Les Arcs offers free wine tastings and oenology courses every week. The Cellier des Archers in Les Arcs-sur-Argens also invites visitors to wine tastings. The difference between the two options is clear: the Maison adds courses to its regular free tastings, while wine tasting is the main visitor experience at the Cellier.

Menhirs and Hill Trails

The menhirs of Les Terriers bear witness to cultural practices in the later prehistory of the commune of Les Arcs-sur-Argens. People visited the site between the beginning of the 4th millennium and the end of the 3rd millennium BC. There are six smaller and three larger standing stones. The site is reached via a walk of several kilometres through the hills. Set aside time for this walk and check trail conditions before setting out.

Forest, Rivers and Nature Trails

The Argens and Aille rivers run through the forest, where their courses have shaped ridges and gorges. The “Emys” educational and discovery trail follows the Apié de Raybaud hiking path. Along the route, 14 information panels share insights into local flora and fauna.

A hiking trail in the southern part of the forest showcases the natural and archaeological diversity of Les Arcs-sur-Argens. The region’s history goes back to the Palaeolithic. The two trails focus on different things: Emys shares information about flora and fauna through its panels, while the southern trail combines nature and archaeology. Forest access conditions may vary; check the current conditions before setting out.

Leisure Activities by the Argens

P’Arcs de Loisirs combines a shaded picnic area by the Argens with a pump track, a bike park and children’s playgrounds. The playgrounds are intended for children aged 2 to 12. This makes the facilities different from trails focused more on history or landscapes. Individual facilities may be undergoing maintenance; check their status before your visit.
