Les Infournas consists of the hamlets of Les Infournas Bas and Les Infournas Hauts. The two parts of the village provide useful orientation when weighing up hikes, culture and local experiences for a stay: some activities are specifically located in one hamlet, while other routes pass through the landscape of Les Infournas or include the village as part of a longer route. Forest areas lie to the south of Les Infournas.
Mountain Trails, Cycling and Horse-Riding Routes
Les Infournas Hauts lies at an altitude of 1,373 metres and serves as a starting point for mountain hikes. On the “From Charbillac to Les Payas” stage, the route heads southeast from Charbillac towards Les Infournas Hauts; after 4.2 kilometres, it continues along paths marked with GR and PR waymarkers. When planning this stage, take the trail markings and conditions into account.
Routes are also designated for mountain biking and horse riding. The “Tour du Champsaur VTT – 3 jours” is a three-day mountain-bike loop that passes through Les Infournas. The “Tour du Champsaur-Valgaudemar à cheval” horse-riding route passes through the protected landscape of Les Infournas and by the Maison Forestière de Subeyrannes. The two routes differ in activity and duration; check seasonal trail conditions in advance for the horse-riding route.
Location and Access to the Drac Valley
From Les Infournas, access to the Drac Valley, a major transport corridor in the region, is only possible via two winding roads. One heads northwest to Chauffayer, 10 kilometres away; the other runs south to Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur, 7 kilometres away. These directions and distances provide a useful point of reference if your trip includes the Drac Valley.
Culture in and near Les Infournas
In Les Infournas Bas, a farmhouse has a door modelled on 14th-century examples and possibly made in the 16th century. A nearby cultural landmark is the Chapelle des Petètes in Aubérie, between Bénévent and Les Infournas. Classified as a Monument historique since 1994, it is regarded as a symbol of local folk art. Small statuettes with a naïve expression have adorned its façade since the 18th century.
Les Ateliers Perchés comprises two workshop exhibitions by Véronique and Martine in the hamlets of Les Infournas Hauts and Les Infournas Bas. Three exhibitions are held each year: in spring, during the week around 15 August, and in early December. If you want to include an exhibition in your travel plans, check the dates before your visit.
Honey Experiences
Honey can also be discovered in different ways. La Miellerie d'Émilie in Les Infournas Hauts offers a demonstration of honey extraction. The honey experience at Ferme Drouhot includes a discussion with the producers about bees and is seasonal. The two experiences have different focuses: one on extraction, the other on talking about bees. If you plan to visit Ferme Drouhot, check the seasonal dates for your stay.
