Manteyer offers several points of interest for a trip: a cycling route, architectural history and wetland landscape. The Montée de Céüze ends at the former Céüze station in the village; the Château de Manteyer dates from the 14th century. The Marais de Manteyer extends across two municipalities.

Cycling route and paths in the municipality

The Montée de Céüze is 11.0 kilometres long and designated as a cycling route. Its endpoint is at the former Céüze station in Manteyer. As access conditions at the endpoint may change, check local conditions before setting out.

The Col des Guérins–Lac Pelleautier stage offers a different perspective: it follows the D 18 through Manteyer and provides views of Tête de Combe Noire, the Céüse station and the Gapençais valley. Whether these views are visible depends on the weather.

The municipality has walking, cycling and horse-riding paths. These include paths from the marsh to Fays, as well as routes via Calandri or the Combenoire forest. Plan the paths mentioned as separate options, not as one continuous tour. Path conditions and access may change seasonally; check them before setting out.

Château, church and chapel

The Château de Manteyer is a rectangular building with two round towers. A gallery on large round-arched arcades connects it to a similar building. Both the château’s clear ground plan and its distinctive connecting gallery are part of its architecture.

The Église de Manteyer contains a painting dated around 1640, probably attributed to Antoine Bouvier de Digne. The church is a place to visit; if you would like to see it, check current access arrangements in advance. This allows you to include a specific art-historical detail in your visit to the village without assuming fixed opening hours.

The Chapelle Saint-Roch de Manteyer lies below the village on the banks of the Buëch and probably dates from the 16th century. During restoration work in the 1960s, a square was created in front of the chapel, making it possible to hold an open-air mass on 16 August, the saint’s feast day. This story connects the chapel’s location with a particular religious occasion and a specific date.

Marshland and wetland landscape

The Marais de Manteyer lies within the municipalities of Manteyer and La Roche-des-Arnauds. It covers almost 50 hectares of reed beds and wet meadows. Most of it is protected by a prefectural order for the protection of biotopes.

If you plan activities in sensitive areas, check the applicable conditions beforehand. Plan your routes through the wetland landscape in accordance with the conditions in force at the time.
