Le Brusquet can be explored through different themes: architectural history at two churches, walks and geological topics in the Parc forestier du Brusquet, and a mountain bike route that includes singletrack. To help plan your trip, choose whether you would like to focus more on architecture, the forest park or cycling.

Churches with traces of different periods

Notre-Dame de Lauzière was probably built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style and has a gilded Baroque high altar. The date of construction is uncertain; the altar adds a Baroque accent. The Eglise Saint-Maurice is a listed building dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. Comparing the two raises different questions: Notre-Dame invites a look at its probable construction date and furnishings, while Saint-Maurice offers a focus on its period and listed status. Architecture, furnishings and protected status therefore provide different clues for exploring the area’s architectural history. While Notre-Dame probably dates from the 12th century, Saint-Maurice is associated with the 12th and 13th centuries.

Walks, geology and forest history

The Parc forestier du Brusquet is a place for walks and discovery, with numerous species and large specimens. For a specific theme, the Parcours forestier leads through the park and brings its geological heritage to life, particularly the so-called “slump balls.” It starts at the car park on Place du 8 mai 1945. The park and the trail offer different emphases: the park foregrounds walks and discovery, while the trail focuses on geology. The Parc forestier is also connected to the history of restoring mountain soils to combat erosion. This historical context adds another perspective to the nature and geology themes.

Mountain biking and hiking

Mountain bike route VTT n°3 – La maison forestière starts at the rest area and follows a path to the forest house. It crosses black soils; 60 percent of the route runs mainly along enjoyable singletrack trails. Access conditions and trail conditions may change seasonally; check the current situation before setting out.

The ASLB hiking section organizes a hike one Saturday each month around Le Brusquet or Digne-les-Bains. Take both possible locations into account when planning and ask about the next scheduled date.

When choosing between activities, it helps to consider your main interest: the churches focus on architectural history, while the trail highlights geology and the park offers walks. The mountain bike route is a different kind of activity; the monthly ASLB hike adds another option with its own date. This lets you tailor your stay to your interests without assuming a particular order for visiting the sites.
