A four-hectare freshwater pond, scenic trails, Gallo-Roman remains and a weekly market featuring local produce give Brossac its varied character. Nature, history and local market life can each shape your stay in a different way, depending on what you want to focus on during your trip.

Water, Forest and Heathland

Étang Vallier is a four-hectare freshwater pond. The Sentier Vallier offers a different perspective on the landscape, winding through forest, heathland and the Champagne landscape typical of the region. Brossac therefore features both a clearly defined body of water and a variety of landscapes. If landscape types are a particular priority when planning your trip, the Sentier Vallier offers the specific scenery of forest, heathland and Champagne landscape.

The Tour Charente VTT between Brossac and Yviers

Section 28 of the Tour Charente VTT, from Brossac to Yviers, starts at Étang Vallier. On the stretch between the two villages, several climbs and descents alternate along forest tracks. The cycling route therefore offers a different focus from the Sentier Vallier: changes in terrain shape the VTT section, while the Sentier features a succession of different landscapes. This distinction can help you choose between the two routes based on what interests you.

Gallo-Roman Remains and Architectural History

The remains of the Gallo-Roman Villa de la Coue d’Auzenat are located in Brossac. An associated aqueduct was discovered 62 metres north of the villa. This location detail makes the connection between the two archaeological features clear: the villa and aqueduct form part of the same historical site.

The church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité was built on a hilltop in the 12th century. A painted fresco was rediscovered during restoration work in the sanctuary. Its construction date, location and fresco offer different starting points for exploring Brossac’s cultural history. The covered washhouse at Bonneteau also reflects changes to the built environment: it dates from the early 20th century and was converted into an educational pond in 1999. Another washhouse on Rue de la Fontaine was restored and enhanced to enrich the town’s heritage.

Weekly Market and Summer Music

At Brossac’s weekly market, local producers offer cheese, beer, bread and brioche. Traders also sell fruit, vegetables and other local produce. As individual vendors and schedules may change, check the latest market details in advance.

On Saturday mornings, the Arts Brossac association runs a coffee stand under the market halls as part of the market. The wood-fired oven also helps bring the Saturday morning market to life. Alongside market produce, community activities are also a focus. Summer Thursdays features free world music concerts at the municipal stadium; specific dates and programmes may change. Check event dates in advance if you’re interested.
