Touzac brings together historic architecture, contemporary art and walking routes. The Église Saint-Laurent and other traces of the village’s history offer a different focus from CHABRAM²’s cultural programme. Two routes add outdoor activity to the cultural themes. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to focus on historic sites and art, or include a longer walk as well.

Church and Historic Traces

The Église Saint-Laurent was built in the 12th century and served as a fortress during the Wars of Religion. Its west façade was classified as a French historic monument by a decree dated 28 April 1964. Its construction, historic use and the protection of a specific façade reflect different chapters in the history of this building.

The remains of a former fortified castle can be found at Puy de Neuville. The monumental entrance gate, once closed by a drawbridge, still survives. The gate provides tangible evidence of the former fortifications; remains of the castle itself are also preserved.

Another historic building is La Peigerie: this former 18th-century manor house overlooks the village of Touzac. There is also a chapel in the village, which bears witness to the cemetery’s original location. The cemetery was moved to Les Bouts du Loup in 1887. The village landscape therefore reveals different traces, from a former manor house to a change in the village’s history.

Art in the Former School

L'ÉCOLE, CHABRAM²’s contemporary art centre, is housed in Touzac’s former village school. CHABRAM² regularly holds contemporary art exhibitions there, as well as various events, including theatre, music and cinema. The programme therefore extends beyond exhibitions. Individual events change, so if you are planning around a particular date, check the current programme in advance.

Choose a Route by Distance

The two routes differ mainly in length and stated duration. When accessed in August 2026, the municipal website listed the Circuit Pierres et Vignes walking route in Touzac as 2 km long, starting from Touzac’s church square. When accessed in August 2026, the municipal website listed the Circuit du Grand Fé circular walk as 9.07 km long, with an average duration of 2 hours and 55 minutes. Pierres et Vignes is therefore the shorter route, while you can allow more time for the Grand Fé. Check the municipality’s current route information before setting out.

Outdoor Geocaching

The Pierres et Vignes network presents geocaching as a self-guided, family-friendly way to discover Touzac’s lesser-known heritage outdoors through play. It offers a different way to engage with the village’s cultural themes than visiting historic buildings or exhibitions. Individual cache locations may change, so if you are planning to go geocaching during your trip, check the latest location information in advance.
