Venansault offers several distinct reasons to stay: a yellow-marked circular trail with a specified walking time, a wildlife observation point, and historical and agricultural themes. This lets you decide whether to focus on outdoor activity, nature observation, or culture. For the circular trail in particular, the stated duration and named starting point help you plan your time.

Hiking and Nature Observation

Venansault’s hiking trail network includes a 13-kilometre yellow-marked circular trail with a stated walking time of 3 hours and 15 minutes. This makes it a longer, clearly plannable activity. Allow extra time for breaks in addition to the stated walking time. The starting point for all listed circular trails is at the far end of the Pierre Loué car park on Route des Clouzeaux. Markings and parking arrangements may change; check both before setting out.

A path and an observation point have been created at Étang Nicou, where walkers can observe the wildlife. Fishing is possible in the picnic area, Aire de pique-nique de la coulée verte du Guyon. Local fishing conditions and regulations may change; check them before a fishing trip. This gives you a choice of outdoor activities: a hike with a specified duration, wildlife observation, or fishing.

Church and Park

Saint-Pierre Church in Venansault was first mentioned around 1080. It also retains an apse thought to date from the 11th century. These two dates refer to different things: the church’s first mention and the estimated age of the surviving apse. This makes it possible to consider the building’s early mention separately from a specific architectural feature when placing it in its historical context.

Les Jardins du Loriot add a different cultural dimension to Venansault: they are a five-hectare Anglo-Chinese park. Its size and classification each characterise the grounds in their own way. In contrast to the church, the park is the main focus here, while Saint-Pierre is defined by its architectural history and surviving apse. Those particularly interested in parks and gardens will find a different focus here than in the town’s history.

Farm Visits and French Beef

At Ferme des Cowboys in Venansault, farm visits and a project centred on French beef go hand in hand. The farm visits introduce visitors to Longhorn cattle, buffalo, zebus, and donkeys. The animals are the clear focus of this activity. Visiting arrangements may change; check in advance which visits are currently available. The Ferme des Cowboys project, launched in early February 2024, combines direct and online sales of French beef. Sales arrangements may also change, so it is worth checking before making plans.
