In Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay, things to explore range from a slate trail and hikes through the HyrĂ´me Valley and vineyard landscapes to wine tasting at a family winery. Each experience has a distinct focus: local history, nature, winemaking and wine can each be explored in a hands-on way.

Local History Between Slate and Wine

The unmarked family route, Circuit des ardoises, uses twelve slate plaques to present twelve facets of Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay—from its origins to the end of the 20th century. It can be explored by car, bicycle or on foot. The historic “gagneries” and the paths connecting them still shape the landscape. The first three such settlement and agricultural areas were established between 1037 and 1054; each covered about 50 hectares. Settlers were entrusted with clearing and cultivating the land. Traces of this history are still clearly visible in the land registry and aerial photographs 900 years later.

Since 2 August 2002, the Musée de la vigne et du vin d’Anjou has held the French designation “Musée de France”. Its collection currently includes more than 2,000 objects; its documentary collection contains more than 8,500 items.

On Foot Through the HyrĂ´me Valley and Vineyards

The Coteau des Martyrs circular hiking trail starts and ends in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay and is three kilometres long. It loops around the HyrĂ´me Valley and features numerous information panels about local nature and heritage. The valley is considered steep-sided and wild; watermills and windmills are among its features.

A longer hike is the seven-kilometre sentier viticole. It winds on foot through vineyard landscapes and offers insights into the work of winegrowers. It starts at Place des Vignerons, near the Musée de la vigne et du vin d’Anjou. At three kilometres for the Coteau des Martyrs and seven for the sentier viticole, the routes differ clearly in length. They also have different themes: nature and heritage take centre stage around the Hyrôme Valley, while the vineyard trail focuses on the landscape and the work of winegrowing.

Cycling and Wine Tasting

Two mountain bike trails start in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay and are promoted on the map of the area designated as the Espace VTT-FFC des Coteaux du Layon. A mountain bike washing station is available near Camping de la Coudraye. The Circuit des ardoises also offers another way to explore the area by bicycle.

Domaine Sauveroy is a family winery in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay, with a 26-hectare organically farmed vineyard. The winery is open year-round. Visitors are welcomed in the cellar to learn about and taste the wines. While the sentier viticole focuses on vineyard landscapes and winemaking, a visit to the Domaine puts the wines themselves centre stage.
