An 11 km loop, a 2.4 km family trail and historic watermills dating from the 15th to 16th centuries give Aigrefeuille-Sur-Maine a distinctive profile for walks and local history. The trails vary significantly in length, with scenic areas along the Maine and several heritage sites to explore.

Walking trails by length and starting point

The Circuit entre bourg et Maine is an 11 km loop that starts at the Tanneries car park. The family trail Murmures de rochers “Imaginaires et noms insolites” is 2.4 km long. These offer two very different trail lengths to choose from. This distinction makes planning straightforward: you can opt for a longer loop or a much shorter trail.

The Boucle de la Maine starts either at the Pont Caffino leisure area or at the Tanneries car park. This makes the Tanneries car park both the starting point for the Circuit entre bourg et Maine and one of the two options for the Boucle. Pont Caffino is the other starting point for the Boucle. Check the local signs before setting out.

The Maine riverbanks, park and weavers’ village

The banks of the Maine are ideal for shady walks. The Maine and its slopes are among the most heavily wooded and popular walking areas in the municipality. For visitors who particularly value scenery and walks, this offers a local connection to the riverbanks and wooded slopes as well as a choice of trail lengths.

Parc du Plessis preserves the remains of a château and features remarkable trees and diverse planting. It is also a good place to stop for a picnic at the end of the route. If you plan to pause here, the park provides a specific place to take a break along the way. Its château remains, trees and planting also give it a character distinct from the municipality’s religious buildings and mills.

A walking trail passes through La Trélitière, an old weavers’ village. This adds a local history connected to weaving to the walking trails and parks. La Trélitière thus offers a different perspective on the area from the architectural details of the church and chapel or the history of the watermills.

Architecture and historical landmarks

The Chapelle Saint-Sauveur has been fully restored. Église Notre-Dame stands out for its distinctive architecture and stained-glass windows. A war memorial was erected in the church in 1922. The watermills at Moulin de la Vieille Ecluse offer a different historical perspective: they are among the oldest watermills still visible today and date from the 15th to 16th centuries. The historical themes therefore range from the restoration of a chapel, architecture and a dated memorial to the history of the mills. Visitors can choose sites according to their character and explore religious architecture, commemoration and the history of watermills as distinct themes during their stay.
