Les Gobelins metro station is on line 7, between Censier–Daubenton and Place d’Italie. The RATP line map is dated January 2026. The cultural offering also ranges from tapestry and architecture to film screenings and workshops. When choosing a holiday rental, you can therefore tailor the focus of your stay in Paris to your own interests.

Tapestry and Architecture

The history of the Manufacture des Gobelins can be traced through two distinct milestones. It has been at a shared site since 1662, when Colbert brought the Paris workshops together there. Since 1826, the Manufacture has used the high-warp loom technique exclusively. The dates therefore refer to different aspects: the consolidation of the workshops and the textile technique used there ever since.

The Galerie des Gobelins offers a distinctive architectural focus of its own. Architect Jean-Camille Formigé built it between 1906 and 1913. The building is considered a particularly striking example of the Beaux-Arts style. The governments of the Third Republic designated it for the public presentation of works from French manufactories and the collections of the Mobilier national. Chronologically, the gallery’s construction period and the façade of the former Théâtre des Gobelins, designed around 1869, belong to different eras.

The Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé is located on Avenue des Gobelins in Paris, in a 2,200 m² building designed by Renzo Piano. The façade of the former theatre, designed around 1869 by Auguste Rodin, has been preserved. The modern design and the preserved section of façade give the building two clearly distinct architectural references.

Exhibitions, Film and Workshops

The Galerie des Gobelins hosts temporary exhibitions by the Mobilier national; the exhibition programme changes over time. The former Chapelle Saint-Louis des Gobelins now houses historic tapestries and contemporary artworks relating to the sacred. The two venues offer different perspectives: changing displays at one, tapestries and art with sacred associations at the other.

The Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé preserves the complete Pathé archive from the company’s founding. It offers daily screenings of silent films accompanied by pianists and runs workshops on film techniques for families and school groups. The archive, film screenings and hands-on exploration of film techniques therefore offer different ways to engage with film. Workshop dates vary; before your visit, check the screening schedule and the specific workshop dates.

Gardens and Other Places to Visit

The Enclos des Gobelins brings historic buildings and gardens together. Nearby, Square René Le Gall has a playground, a basketball court and a community garden. The facilities may change. For planning your trip, these offer different points of interest: historic tapestries, art and architecture, as well as a nearby square with recreational, sporting and community facilities.

The Hôtel de la Reine Blanche, classified as a historic monument and open to visitors, is located in the Îlot de la Reine Blanche, at 6 rue Gustave-Geffroy in Paris’s 13th arrondissement. Its classification and visitor access make it another specific historic place to visit in the Gobelins area.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

If you want to compare craftsmanship and film history, you can set the high-warp loom technique, used exclusively by the Manufacture since 1826, against the Pathé archive: one focuses on a textile technique, the other on preserving the company’s complete archive. When planning your dates, it is also worth distinguishing between building and institutional history and changing programmes. Construction periods and historical milestones are fixed reference points; exhibitions are temporary and workshop dates vary. Make your choices based on whether you are mainly interested in understanding the architecture and history or attending a specific programme.
