The Musée des Moulages at Hôpital Saint-Louis houses 4,807 wax casts made for 19th-century dermatology lessons—a unique way to explore the cultural history of L'entrepot. Other highlights range from children’s book collections and performing arts to distinctive architectural history. The Canal Saint-Martin adds another dimension as a place to meet, relax and stroll.

Collections and Cultural History

The Musée des Moulages was founded in 1885. Its 4,807 wax casts were made in the 19th century for dermatology lessons. The museum is considered unique in the world: it is the only museum dedicated to a medical specialty that holds such an extensive wax collection. Medical teaching and a specialized historical collection are therefore at its heart.

Visits to the Musée des Moulages are possible only by appointment and during the European Heritage Days. If you plan a visit, confirm the date and access arrangements in advance.

The Médiathèque Françoise Sagan offers a different perspective on the history of books. It serves all sections of the population and has a wide range of services, collections and media. The exhibition space and auditorium host cultural programmes and events that introduce the historical heritage of children’s illustration to children, adults and professionals in the fields of books and children’s literature. The historic collections of the L’Heure Joyeuse library are open to the public there and provide a unique overview of children’s book publishing from the 18th century to the present day.

Cinema, Theatre and Architecture

Le Louxor in Paris’s 10th arrondissement opened on 6 October 1921. It was one of the first cinemas in Paris and one of the few built specifically for film screenings. It was listed as a historic monument on 5 October 1981. These two dates mark different moments in its history: the opening of a building designed specifically as a cinema and its later listing as a monument.

The Porte Saint-Martin is also in the 10th arrondissement. The triumphal arch was built in honour of Louis XIV and his victorious battles, and symbolizes the former city wall of Charles V. At the Gare du Nord, by contrast, the monumental facade in a modern neoclassical style stands out: it is adorned with 23 statues by renowned sculptors. Together, these landmarks represent different aspects of Parisian history—cinema architecture, royal commemoration and monumental railway-station architecture.

La Scala Paris is a private theatre of public interest, built on the ruins of a Belle Époque café-concert venue and a magnificent Art Deco cinema. Its programme includes theatre, dance, music, new circus, and visual and digital arts. Forty-five-minute behind-the-scenes tours of the theatre are available on request. Confirm availability before your visit.

Canal Saint-Martin and Marché Saint-Martin

In the 10th arrondissement, the Canal Saint-Martin is a place to meet, relax and stroll. The 4.5-kilometre waterway runs through the 10th and 11th arrondissements and includes four locks, six footbridges and two bridges. For orientation, it is useful to distinguish the leisure spot in the 10th arrondissement from the full course of the canal through both arrondissements.

The Marché Saint-Martin is known for its convivial atmosphere. Anthony Bro offers a homemade ceviche made without lemon, reinterpreting a typical dish of South American cuisine. Individual vendors’ offerings may change.

Getting There and Finding Accommodation

Trains from the Gare du Nord run to northern France and Germany, as well as to international destinations such as London, Belgium and the Netherlands. Routes and destinations may change, so check the current timetable before travelling.

When looking for a holiday apartment in L'entrepot, consider whether a museum visit that requires an appointment or the Canal Saint-Martin as a place to relax and stroll will play a bigger part in your stay. This will help you see whether your plans depend on making arrangements in advance or leave room for walks.
