Discover Val-De-Saâne through a variety of themes: a challenging circular hike, routes along the water and through former villages, a weekly market and churches with a varied history. Planning your trip is not just a matter of deciding how much time you want to set aside for hiking. Market hours, local history and the swimming pool’s opening hours can also shape your stay.

Hiking between the Saâne, the Tortillard and former villages

Circular route no. 21 is called “Des sources de la Saâne au Château de La Couture (Château d'Imbleville)”. This difficult hike is 15 kilometres long and takes 3 hours and 45 minutes to walk. The route is marked in yellow. Its length, duration and difficulty rating provide specific guidance for anyone planning a longer hike.

The “Val de Saâne à pied” route offers different scenery: a walk by the Tortillard, a watercourse along the Saâne, as well as circular walks through the former villages from which Val-de-Saâne emerged. This gives you a choice between a challenging loop with a specified duration and an option featuring a walk and village circuits. The Saâne itself rises in the Pays de Caux, in the territory of the former commune of Varvannes, which is now part of the group of villages of Val-de-Saâne. Trout fishing is possible on the Saâne under certain conditions; check the local regulations in force before you go.

Saturday market and churches with their own histories

Every Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm, an open-air market with at least six stalls selling fresh, local produce takes place in the town centre. Products include fish, vegetables, fruit, dairy products, honey and charcuterie. The market gives you a specific reason to spend Saturday morning in the town centre. Market hours may change, so check the date before your visit.

The churches also offer a glimpse into different periods. The Église Saint-Nicaise de Thièdeville dates back to the 11th century and was extensively remodelled in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Église Saint-Wandrille d'Anglesqueville bears witness to two historic changes from different periods: during the French Revolution, the church was used to produce saltpetre; in the early 20th century, its façade and bell tower were completely rebuilt. Those interested in architectural history will find both medieval origins with later alterations and documented phases of use and construction from more recent times.
