The Durdent rises in Héricourt-En-Caux. Trails through the valley, wetlands and historic buildings offer different ways to spend your stay. When planning, it is worth looking at the routes: alongside the GR®211, there is a 10.6-kilometre circular trail and a cultural and historical route of about two kilometres.

Hiking in the Durdent Valley

The GR®211 passes through Héricourt-En-Caux along the Durdent Valley. The section runs between green meadows and wooded slopes; old mills, washhouses and stone bridges are closely connected with the river. This brings together views of the valley landscape and its riverside structures.

“Sur les pas de Jehan le Povremoyne” is a 10.6-kilometre hiking trail. It is listed in the PDESI and classified as a Level 2 hiking route of departmental interest. The circular route starts at the Salle Roncaro car park on Route du Moulin Bleu, where you can leave your vehicle. The route description gives 23 December 2024 as its update date.

A Shorter Route and Wetland

“Aux Sources de la Durdent” is a cultural and historical circular route of about two kilometres, with a stated duration of approximately one and a half hours. It starts at the Salle des Fêtes car park on Place Roncaro, near the football stadium. The route includes an activity booklet designed specifically for children.

The “Parcours du Saint-Mellon” passes through a wetland and explains its importance and the role of the Durdent. The Saint Mellon spring has a different cultural association: it is a place of pilgrimage. The two names thus point to different aspects of the area—nature education along the trail and a traditional spiritual connection at the spring.

Architectural History and Heritage

Château du Boscol dates from the 16th and 17th centuries and is partially protected as a historic monument. The protected area includes the château, chapel, dovecote and the park’s perimeter walls. The protection notice was last amended on 19 July 2023. The château also has a one-kilometre beech avenue.

Chapelle Saint Riquier was built around 1715 on the site of an earlier structure dating from the 11th or 12th century. Today, it hosts art exhibitions and cultural events; their dates may vary. The present-day Church of Saint-Denis dates from the 19th century and preserves a 13th-century baptismal font. The mill wheel and a sluice can still be seen at Moulin Quetteville.

The buildings mark different periods: the centuries cited for the château reach back to the early modern period, while the baptismal font is older than the present-day church. Those interested in local history can consider these architectural details alongside the religious and landscape connections.

Cycling and Horse-Riding Options

According to the 2024 official tourism guide, the “Entre Seine et Mer à Vélo” cycling route starts in Héricourt-En-Caux. The guide describes it as heading towards the Seine Valley or as far as Veulettes-sur-Mer on the coast. This adds a cycling route with onward regional destinations to the hiking options.

The 2024 official tourism guide says that the Centre Equestre de la Durdent offers training for riders of all ages, with a focus on competitions in CSO, CCE and Horse Ball. It also mentions rides available on request. Check the current arrangements before your trip.

When choosing a hotel in Héricourt-En-Caux, these differences can help with planning: a cultural and historical circular route with a stated duration, a longer hiking trail, views of the Durdent Valley or a cycling route with regional destinations. The right focus depends on which of these activities and cultural sites you want to shape your stay.
