Visitors choosing Gonfreville-Lʼorcher as a destination can enjoy cultural history, a walking route, and activities for exercise and relaxation. Particularly distinctive are the traces of postwar reconstruction following the bombing of Le Havre and the Renaissance heritage of its châteaux. When planning your trip, it is worth deciding what to focus on: history and architecture call for a different itinerary from a longer outdoor walk or a visit to the aquatic center.

Renaissance Heritage and Local History

The Château d’Orcher was once a fortress on a rocky outcrop and was converted into an elegant residence in the 18th century. In its gardens, wooded areas alternate with terraces whose clipped tree-lined avenues offer views across the Seine toward Honfleur. The gardens are open seasonally. Every year on the second weekend in October, the château hosts “Plantes en fête,” featuring plant exhibitions and sales, conferences, meetups, and fun workshops. Check the dates before your trip.

The Manoir de Bévilliers is a Renaissance building listed as a historic monument since 1924. Its design reflects the combination of Italian art and the Cauchois style. This gives it a different focus from the Maison du Patrimoine et des Cités Provisoires, which explores postwar history.

The Maison preserves two former barracks from the American Camp Philip Morris. Its exhibition tells the story of the temporary settlements established from 1947 for people made homeless by the bombing of Le Havre. Archival photographs, audio and video testimonies, plans, timelines, and models from the AGCP bring this history to life. The second barrack recreates a kitchen, dining room, and bedroom from the 1960s; the objects on display enable audiovisual presentations.

The churches also offer different historical details. The Église Saint-Erkonwald preserves Romanesque capitals, a 16th-century baptismal font, and two series of modern stained-glass windows. The Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Consolation in the hamlet of Gournay was built in the 17th century on the site of an important pilgrimage. Its high altar is listed as a historic monument.

Walking, Golf and Water

The Circuit de la Pointe de Caux starts and ends in Gonfreville-Lʼorcher. This moderately difficult walking route is 12.1 kilometers long, and the circuit is estimated to take about three hours and 15 minutes. These details help you estimate how much time you will need. If you would rather fit in a shorter activity than a longer walk, Gonfreville-Lʼorcher also has cycling routes at the foot of the cliffs.

Golf de Bévilliers offers a ffgolf-approved 9-hole course with synthetic greens. It is suitable for beginners as well as experienced players. The facilities include group lessons and advanced training courses. The restaurant welcomes golfers and non-golfers for lunch, serving local produce and seasonal cuisine.

The Complexe Aquatique Gd’O offers a range of aquatic facilities: a 25-meter sports pool, an activity pool, a leisure pool, a wild-water channel, and a pentagliss slide. These are complemented by a sauna, hammam, spa, and fitness area with a gym. This makes it easy to focus a day of your stay on swimming and water-based fun, or on wellness and exercise.

Planning Visits

The Maison du Patrimoine et des Cités Provisoires is open year-round. You can visit without an appointment on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2:00 to 5:30 pm; guided tours are available by arrangement.
