Cléon combines a varied cultural programme with insights into local history and activities for nature, sports and leisure. To plan your stay, you can first decide whether performing arts, historic sites or physical activity should be your main focus. The different themes give Cléon a distinctive character that goes beyond any single reason to visit.
Stages, library and local history
La Traverse is a theatre and events venue with a capacity of up to 650 spectators. Each season features almost forty events. Highlights include blues, urban music and dance, theatre, and performances for young audiences. The programme changes from season to season. La Traverse is particularly known for its blues programme, which also includes the Blues de Traverse festival. If you would like to plan your visit around specific dates, check the festival’s current schedule.
Another cultural event is Cléon en Scène, held every year at the beginning of summer on Place Saint-Roch and designed as a major festive and cultural occasion. Dates and programme vary.
The Médiathèque George Sand adds to the cultural offering with more than 24,000 titles, regularly updated. Visitors can ask librarians for recommendations, and events encourage exchange between generations. The collection is updated, and event dates may change.
The Church of Saint-Martin also tells the story of different building phases: the present church was built in the 16th and 17th centuries, and the nave was rebuilt in the Gothic style in 1887. Its ground plan follows the shape of a Latin cross; the bell tower was never completed. The history of the area extends beyond the church. Bas-Cléon is a hamlet on the Seine that developed from the 16th century onwards near a manor house that has since disappeared. Until the beginning of the 20th century, shipbuilding, fishing and inland navigation were important activities there. More recent industrial history includes the Renault car plant on Rue de Tourville: established in Cléon in the late 1950s, it specialised in engine and transmission parts.
Nature and activities
Le Sentier des abeilles combines a food forest with an educational trail. Its surface is soft and accessible. Lac Patin offers a different natural setting: it is a biodiverse ecosystem with a wide variety of flora and fauna, providing favourable conditions for different species to feed and reproduce. This gives you a choice between an educational nature trail and a lake of ecological significance as different themes for your stay.
L’Oasis is located on Rue du Docteur-Villers. The metropolitan authority operates the complex for sports, leisure and recreation; its facilities include a swimming pool and an ice rink. The pool has two indoor basins: a wave pool and a leisure pool suitable for all ages and ability levels. Renovations may affect the pool configuration, and operating details may also change. The 800 m² ice rink gives visitors the opportunity to learn and practise skating with support from the staff. Dates and access arrangements may change, so it is worth checking the current offering.
À l’Abordage, a family playground, is located in Parc des Sports et des Loisirs Micheline Ostermeyer. The park also offers joggers and walkers facilities such as a 3×3 basketball court, as well as a fitness area for exercise. Play and sports equipment may change. Another option for physical activity is the Parcours Santé in the Ostermeyer sports complex: its 14 stations are designed to meet users’ physiological needs. An information board and educational signs explain the exercises and the sequence of stations. The course is used by beginners as well as experienced athletes.
Which of these activities shapes your stay depends on how you would like to spend your time here.
