A former Premonstratensian abbey, a historic walk along a former railway line and trails through three named places give Licques a variety of things to explore. As you plan your stay, you can choose between architectural and local history, scenic views, specific route lengths and regional delights. The historical references and information about individual trails can help you choose what to focus on during your trip.

Abbey, parish church and castle remains

The former Premonstratensian abbey is located on Place du Haut. The abbey church dates from the first half of the 18th century and is now a parish church. Two periods of history therefore meet here: the story of the former abbey and its present-day use as a place of worship. The historic route “À la découverte de Licques” starts at the Abbaye de Licques, giving the walk a direct connection to local history.

The remains of Licques Castle include a dovecote, which is a remnant of a polygonal tower dating from the 11th or 12th century. It dates to an earlier period than the abbey church. Those interested in the history of the area will find different points of reference here: 18th-century architecture at the church and a medieval trace among the castle remains.

Historic trails and scenic views

One section of the “À la découverte de Licques” route now follows a field path lined with pastures. The “Le Portel-Bonningues” railway line used to run along this route. The present-day path and its former use as a railway line give the walk a tangible historical connection to the landscape.

From Mont Cahen, you can enjoy panoramic views over the Pays de Licques and the Boulonnais bocage. This is another way to experience Licques through its landscape, as well as through individual buildings and traces of history.

For longer walks, you can compare two trails by their stated lengths. The Sentier du Cah-Licqu’Co passes through Cahen, Licques and Courtebourne and is 11 km long. The Sentier des Trois-Calvaires is 12 km long. The difference is one kilometre, making the Sentier du Cah-Licqu’Co the shorter of the two stated distances. If you are more interested in a historic walk than in choosing a route by its distance, you can follow “À la découverte de Licques” and its connections to the abbey and former railway line.

Regional produce and visits

The FĂŞte de la Dinde takes place in Licques every December. The Balade Gourmande is another event celebrating local produce. At the 2026 edition, there were five tasting stops where visitors could discover local products. A 16 km route was planned for this edition and could be adjusted depending on weather conditions. This information refers to the 2026 edition.

Licques Volailles offers morning visits to the farm, slaughterhouse and packaging facilities by prior reservation. A reservation is required for the visit; it is best to confirm availability before travelling. When planning, you can choose between historic walks, longer trails, an annual festival held in December and a visit that requires a reservation.
