The Phare de Gris-Nez stands in Audinghen at the tip of Cap Gris-Nez. The village’s character is complemented by the Église Saint-Pierre and the remains of Fort du Gris-Nez; visitors can also enjoy an interactive visitor area and several hiking and cycling routes. If you’re looking for a hotel in Audinghen, you can plan your trip around your interests: scenery, local history, architecture or outdoor activities.
Cap Gris-Nez and local history
Cap Gris-Nez is a geological landmark with a viewing terrace overlooking the sea and a paradise for birds. Together with Cap Blanc-Nez, it is one of 13 major national tourist attractions awarded the “Grand Site de France” designation. A construction campaign at the Phare de Gris-Nez is dated to 1837. The remains of Fort du Gris-Nez are in Audinghen; the fort was built by John Rogers, an engineer to Henry VIII.
Church and interactive visit
The Église Saint-Pierre was built as part of Audinghen’s reconstruction after the destruction of the Second World War. Its radically modern design combines a reinforced-concrete structure with the visual arts. Thus, a construction campaign at the lighthouse dated to 1837 stands alongside the church, built during the reconstruction after the destruction of the Second World War. The La Cense hiking trail places particular emphasis on the unusual church.
The Maison du Site des Deux-Caps is housed in the former barn of the Ferme d’Haringzelle in Audinghen. It offers an interactive visitor area with a fun trail covering more than 250 m²; the content may change over time. This trail is a distinct way to visit, alongside the hiking and cycling routes.
Compare hiking and cycling routes
La Cense passes through the countryside around Audinghen and starts at the Maison du Site des Deux-Caps. The route is 5 km long and takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to walk. By contrast, Odin starts in the village centre, is 7.2 km long and takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to walk. La Cense is therefore 2.2 km shorter, and its stated walking time is 25 minutes less than Odin’s. The starting points also differ: the Maison and the village centre. Trail conditions can change; check the latest information before setting out.
The Vélomaritime, also known as EuroVelo 4, is signposted from Wimereux to Audinghen and from Calais via Sangatte to Audinghen. The Maison du Site des Deux-Caps also offers five cycling loops between Escalles and Ambleteuse. The signposted routes lead to Audinghen, while the loops are located between Escalles and Ambleteuse. The available tours may be updated; signposting and access rules can change. Check the latest information before setting off.
