On the left bank of the Canche, downstream from Montreuil-sur-Mer, lies La Calotterie. The river landscape and wetlands shape the geographical setting; paths and individual historic buildings offer different points of reference for planning a stay.

The Canche and the wetlands

The ZNIEFF protected area 310013691 is named “Peatland woods, marshes and floodplain meadows of La Calotterie, Attin and Neuville-sous-Montreuil”. The name brings together three landscape types and includes three municipalities. Together with its location on the left bank of the Canche, it places La Calotterie in a landscape where the river, marshes and floodplain meadows are important geographical reference points.

The Les Pyroles route reaches La Calotterie via the D146. Temporary roadworks or flooding may affect its course. If you are using this route for guidance, check the current route in advance.

Walks and planning your time

The L’Hurbise PR walking route starts at Place de la Calotterie and runs between the marshes and the Canche. It is 8 km long; the stated walking time is 2 hours 40 minutes. You can factor the distance and time into your day’s plans, while the route’s location between the wetlands and river gives this walk its distinctive landscape setting.

The 2025 and 2026 Trail du Blanc Pignon programmes included trail distances of 10, 15 and 30 km, a 10 km walk, walking and Nordic walking. Compared with L’Hurbise, for which a specific walking time is also given, the event programme features several distances and forms of activity. This lets you distinguish between a single route with a stated time and a programme with different formats. Event formats may change. If you are considering the trail during your trip, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition.

Church, château and local history

The choir of Saint-Firmin Church is a clearly dated historical landmark: it was built in the 16th century. The La Hayette route also lists the church in La Calotterie as a point of interest. Architectural history and a route reference thus come together at a named building.

Château Siriez de Longeville is a 19th-century château in the Neo-Louis XIII style. Architect Emile Lavezzari built it for the Siriez de Longeville family. The château is privately owned and cannot be visited, but it is visible from the road. A pond lies in front of the château, and it is surrounded by a wooded area. The building is therefore defined both by its architecture and its surroundings.

The area’s early history is also linked to a possibility: La Calotterie may have been the site of the port of Quentovic in the 7th century. The tentative nature of this historical attribution is part of the claim.
