Saint-André-Lez-Lille combines architectural history with a variety of routes. The Pavillon Louis XVI and Château Vandame offer specific points of interest for culture enthusiasts; walking routes, the banks of the Deûle and the fortifications provide further perspectives on the town. Recurring events may also play a part in your planning.

Culture and architectural history

The Pavillon Louis XVI was classified as a Monument historique by decree on 30 July 1921. Its designation as a protected monument provides a tangible historical focal point for a stay centred on architectural history.

Château Vandame was built between 1887 and 1890 as a spacious residence; its grounds include a small tower and a tree-filled park. It is located opposite Saint-André's town hall and now houses the municipal music school. The park surrounding the château is characterised by century-old trees and is well suited to walks. The site at the château thus brings together historic architecture, a present-day municipal use and an opportunity to spend time outdoors.

Walking routes, the Deûle and the fortifications

The Boucle andrésienne is a 10-kilometre circular route that starts in Saint-André. The two scenic routes can be covered on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. For planning purposes, the Boucle provides a specific distance; for the scenic routes, the choice of how to get around is the main consideration.

Walks along the banks of the Deûle and the fortifications are also among the things to do in Saint-André. Before setting out, it is worth checking the current signs and route conditions, as these may change.

Another landscape-related initiative is the project to restore the Basse Deûle's ecology and landscape. The measures cover the banks, riverside vegetation and open spaces, and aim to strengthen the green network. The project includes an upper and a lower promenade along the Basse Deûle arm and aims to connect Saint-André-Lez-Lille with Vieux Lille. The promenades and the connection are described as project objectives.

Annual events

The Semi-marathon de la solidarité has been held in Saint-André in April for several years and is organised by the association of the same name. Four races are offered, catering to both beginners and experienced runners. As exact dates and race offerings may change, check the event date and current programme before your trip.

Celebrated in October in the Lille metropolitan area, the Festival of Lanterns includes an annual competition for the most beautiful lantern. During the festival, children then walk through the streets and receive sweets; the event concludes with a fireworks display. Programme details may vary here, too. If you would like to include the festival in your travel plans, check the dates and schedule for your stay.
