The château, churches, a painting, a thurible and a dolmen offer different cultural highlights; nearby, Lac de la Roucarié adds hiking and water sports to the mix. This gives you a choice between cultural and historical landmarks and two different outdoor activities.

Château and Saint-Laurent

Saint-Laurent Church is next to Château de Trévien and is a small church on the high plateaus of Trévien. At the château, the façades and roofs, the spiral staircase and the painted ceiling of the room on the second floor have been protected as historic monuments by decree dated 25 January 1980. The protected features therefore range from exterior structures to interior elements: the façades and roofs are listed alongside the spiral staircase and painted ceiling.

The church also houses the oil painting “Saint Laurent sur le gril,” which was listed as a movable cultural asset on 9 January 1990. The two dates refer to different things: in 1980, the château’s structural elements; in 1990, the movable painting.

Churches and cultural objects in the hamlets

Another church is located in the hamlet of Saint-Pierre de Gil. A thurible originating from there was listed as a movable cultural asset on 19 February 1992. A dolmen is located in Nougayrol. The painting and thurible are listed movable cultural assets; the dolmen adds an archaeological point of interest. The locations therefore have distinct associations: Saint-Pierre de Gil is associated with a church and an object originating there, while Nougayrol is associated with the dolmen.

Lac de la Roucarié: hiking and water sports

At the dam, Trévien borders Lac de la Roucarié. Nearby, a seven-kilometre, partly shaded circular trail goes around the lake; Almayrac is listed as the starting point for the route. On 14 December 2023, the municipality approved the maintenance of six hiking trails. As trail conditions can change, check the condition of the specific route before setting out.

Near Trévien, the Base nautique du Lac de la Roucarié in Almayrac, on Lac de la Roucarié, offers canoes, stand-up paddleboards and catamarans for half-day or full-day rental. The comparison is simple: the circular route has a set distance of seven kilometres, while the water sports equipment is available to rent for either half a day or a full day. You can decide based on distance or timeframe.

Animal encounters and events

An older profile of Trévien described an association that gave families the opportunity to get to know ponies and a female donkey in a natural setting; various events were also held. This set the former offering apart from the established cultural sites: the focus was on animal encounters and event dates. Before travelling, check whether a suitable event is currently scheduled.
