Poucharramet can be explored through several distinct features: the architectural history of Église Saint-Martin, culture at the La Maison de la Terre café, and craftsmanship at the Atelier Musée du Huchier. Outdoors, two routes offer different connections with the landscape. You can tailor your stay to whether you are especially interested in history, event formats, traditional crafts, or being active.

Architectural history and culture in the village

Église Saint-Martin was built by the Hospitaller Order of Jerusalem. Construction began at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century; a keystone bears the year 1252. This date is a specific point of reference in the building’s history. It should be distinguished from the church’s later designation as a historic monument, which was made by decree on 19 May 1906. Visitors interested in historic buildings will find both a dated architectural detail and a clear indication of the monument’s later status here.

Another cultural venue is La Maison de la Terre, an association-run cultural café in a restored former farmhouse in the village center. Its year-round program includes concerts, photography and art exhibitions, theater, conferences, debates, and screenings of films, short films, and documentaries. The events range from stage performances to discussions and film screenings. Platters featuring local and/or organic products are also served. The food offering may vary with the program, so if you are planning around it, it is best to check in advance.

Two routes, different connections with the landscape

On its return to Poucharramet, the Circuit des Hospitaliers passes along the lake, through the Bure valley, and over a bridge across the river. The Sentier du Touch, by contrast, runs south from Poucharramet along the watercourse to the edge of Bérat. The routes described therefore differ considerably: on the Circuit, the lake, valley, and river crossing are notable sections on the return to Poucharramet; the Sentier follows the Touch southwards and ends at the edge of Bérat. You can choose between the routes based on the landscape features that particularly interest you along the way. As local trail conditions may change, it is advisable to check the latest conditions before setting out.

Craftsmanship and planning your visit

Woodworking is the focus of part of the collection at the Atelier Musée du Huchier: the workshop museum is housed in a former barn and displays tools once used for this work. A separate room is devoted to old objects made of food-related ceramics. These include Dournes, pans, and other old earthenware pots. The two areas offer different insights into objects from past working life and everyday life, without covering the same subject.

The museum offers guided individual visits, educational visits, self-guided individual visits, and guided group visits. Workshops for adults are also available. As schedules and booking conditions may change, check the current options before your visit. For public transport, the POUCHARRAMET – Commanderie bus stop is useful: the Atelier Musée du Huchier is less than a ten-minute walk away. Since bus routes and stop arrangements may change, check the current connection before travelling.
