Wine is a particularly good way to discover Fronton: a signposted visitor route, a long history of winegrowing, and places to learn about and taste wine give your stay a clear focus. At the same time, Parc du Château de Capdeville offers opportunities to get active, take a picnic break and spend time in the children's play area. The different options sit side by side: you can focus on wine and culture or plan time in the park as a separate part of your stay.

Finding your way between wine and park

The Maison des Vins et du Tourisme houses the local tourist office and an area for wine tastings and sales. It is located in Château de Capdeville, a building dating from the late 19th century, set in a seven-hectare wooded park. The park also has a fitness trail, picnic tables and a children's play area. This brings tourist information and wine together in one place, alongside opportunities to get active and take a break outdoors. Families with children can include the play area in their plans; those who want to get active can use the fitness trail.

Winegrowing history and Négrette

The Fronton wine-growing area is one of the oldest wine-growing regions. The Romans planted the first vines, while Négrette, the grape variety typical of Fronton, did not appear until the 12th century. These details mark different periods: winegrowing here dates back to Roman times, while Négrette came later. This historical context adds another dimension to a tasting, offering insight into the history of the growing region and its characteristic grape variety.

Wine route and winemaker portraits

The Fronton Wine Route is a signposted visitor route. More than 200 signs mark the circuit for discovering private wine cellars and the Vinovalie winery; around 40 winemakers regularly open their cellars to visitors. If you want to visit a particular cellar, it is best to check its visiting arrangements in advance. This lets you combine exploring the circuit with planning a visit to a specific cellar.

The Oenorando® “De vignes en forêts dans le Frontonnais” offers a different perspective. It features 14 portraits of local winemakers and passes Château Clamens and Vinovalie Cave de Fronton. Unlike the Wine Route, its focus is on the winemaker portraits and the two named locations; the Wine Route is defined by its marked circuit and cellars that regularly welcome visitors. Your choice therefore depends on whether you would rather focus on the route and its cellars or on the portraits and featured stops.

Visits at Château Bellevue La Foret

Château Bellevue La Foret is a 100-hectare wine estate in the commune of Fronton. Visits are available by appointment; wine tastings and sales of red and rosé Fronton AOP wines are also offered. The key practical consideration when planning a visit is making an appointment. So if you have a particular visit in mind, it is best to arrange it in advance. The wines on offer also provide a specific focus for a tasting: red and rosé AOP wines from Fronton.
