The Lac de Montréjeau and its leisure area put water, walking paths and a range of activities at the centre of the experience. At the same time, the area’s cultural and historical attractions extend from Château de Valmirande to the bridge over the Garonne, while golf adds another option. You can shape your time in Montréjeau around the landscape, architecture or activities.

The Lac de Montréjeau and its leisure area

The lake and leisure area cover around 30 hectares on the site of a former gravel pit. Lac de Montréjeau lies at the confluence of the Neste and the Garonne. The site’s former use and its location on two rivers give your visit a distinctive landscape setting.

Leisure facilities that are free to access year-round include a zip line, fitness equipment, a beach volleyball court, table tennis tables and picnic areas with barbecue grills. The availability of individual facilities may vary. The area also has accessible facilities for people with disabilities, including adapted parking spaces and paths, children’s play areas, picnic tables, lighting and toilets. This infrastructure may change; if you depend on specific facilities, check their condition before your visit.

Other activities at the lake include an aquapark, stand-up paddleboarding and pedal boats. Availability may vary by season. If you prefer to explore on foot, there is a walking path around the lake. Sections of the paths connect to the PR and GR-86 routes; check path conditions locally. There is also an educational trail and an orienteering course at the lake. The easy PR loop hike Montréjeau et son lac is listed as an 11.1-kilometre route.

Château, church and other buildings

Château de Valmirande and its park have been classified as historic monuments since 14 December 1992. The château was inspired by Château de Chambord; its foundation stone was laid on 16 October 1893. Visits are possible year-round by prior reservation for groups of ten or more. Individuals can join groups. Plan your visit in advance and confirm your place before travelling.

At Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montréjeau, John the Baptist and Saint Bartholomew are the two patron saints. An 18th-century altarpiece element comprises three bas-reliefs: the marriage of Joseph and Mary, the Adoration of the Magi and the Presentation in the Temple. This element was registered as a protected object on 12 November 1997.

The market hall and the bridge over the Garonne also provide historic landmarks in the townscape. Built in 1937 from concrete and glass, the market hall has been classified as a historic monument and awarded the 20th-century Architecture contemporaine remarquable label. The bridge over the Garonne in Montréjeau dates from 1773 and is also classified as a historic monument. Les Fromageries du Mont-Royal is among the exhibitors at the Montréjeau market; participation may vary.

Golf du Comminges

Golf du Comminges offers an accredited 9-hole course and a compact 5-hole course. Facilities and activities include week-long courses, a golf school on Saturdays, a practice area, year-round competitions and equipment rental. The two course formats differ in the number of holes; the courses and facilities mentioned offer further practical details if golf is to be the focus of your stay.
