Lagarrigue lies on the GR6, which is considered a shorter variant of the GR65 Way of St James here. The Le plateau de Campuac hiking route follows a grassy path to Lagarrigue. The GR6 also leads towards Causseran. Before setting out, check the route conditions and its waymarkers. These route references can help you choose the focus of your trip: the GR6 connects Lagarrigue with the Way of St James, while the grassy path names a specific destination.
A memorial near Lagarrigue
The Jean-Jacques Anquetin memorial stele is in the commune of Campuac, on the D904 between Villecomtal and Entraygues, near the village of Lagarrigue. It commemorates a 17-year-old member of the Compagnie Fred du Maquis de Pradels who fell fighting the enemy. His name, age and affiliation give the commemoration a personal and specific connection: at its heart is the memory of a young person. The stele thus combines a clearly located stop with an individual story.
Another sacred detail can be found in the upper part of the nave: six circular stained-glass windows, each depicting one of the six days of Creation. Their recurring shape and sequence of motifs bring the windows together in a clearly structured visual programme.
Theatre and sport in different forms
La Chevêche in the hamlet of La Garrigue is a small, fully equipped theatre. It offers readings as well as small-scale theatre, music and shadow-puppet performances. Campuac’s Quillodrom offers a different focus: numerous Quilles-de-huit competitions are held there throughout the year, and the venue is used on 48 weekends a year. Competition schedules may change, so check the dates if you want to plan your visit around a competition. In this way, stage performances and sporting competitions offer distinct cultural interests.
A walk and fishing by the water
The Plan d’eau de Campuac is open year-round and equipped for anglers and walkers. Fishing is also possible there throughout the year. The lake is classified as a second-category fishing water; a permit is required to fish. As fishing regulations may change, check the current rules before a fishing trip. The information makes clear the difference between a walk by the water and a fishing visit: for the latter, obtaining the required permit is part of the planning.
Landscape and a wider regional perspective
Campuac is situated on the granite plateau of Haut-Rouergue. Further afield from Lagarrigue, Conques—with its medieval village and the Basilica of Sainte-Foy—is one of the area’s attractions. Alongside the hiking connection, this brings the landscape and a distinct cultural highlight in the wider area into view. These different themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.
