Historic buildings, hiking trails and an annual walking event offer different ways to plan a trip to Sainte-Juliette-Sur-Viaur. The Pont de Grand-Fuel is associated with a former toll function; for the Parcours de santé, important details include its route, elevation gain and exercise stations. The churches of Sainte-Juliette and Le Piboul each have their own architectural history, while Rando Santé takes place on a fixed date. You can therefore focus on heritage, exercise or 1 May.

Pont de Grand-Fuel and Churches

The Pont de Grand-Fuel was built before the 14th century as a toll bridge for the Seigneur of Salmiech. It is about 55 metres long and built of shale and sandstone. For your visit, parking at the roadside is recommended, preferably on the section between the bridge and the D902.

The church of Sainte-Juliette-sur-Viaur is dedicated to Sainte-Julitte. After being struck by lightning several times, it was rebuilt in 1886. The Vœu de Rayret et Sainte Juliette takes place there every year. For more than 200 years, this tradition has brought together Christians from Sainte-Juliette and the former parish of Saint Martin, on both banks of the Viaur. The church of Le Piboul was expanded in the 17th century from an existing chapel and has a listed bell. The documented architectural histories therefore differ: Sainte-Juliette is notable for its reconstruction after lightning strikes, while Le Piboul is known for the chapel’s expansion and its protected bell.

Hiking Trails and Landscapes Along the Viaur

The Parcours de santé is a 2,545-metre-long fitness trail with an elevation gain of 250 metres and 22 exercise stations. It first descends, then runs along the Viaur on level ground, and finally climbs uphill. When choosing your route, the length is not the only factor to consider: the trail alternates between a descent, a level section and a climb. The Parcours offers views of the surrounding villages and the Viaur Valley; from Sainte-Juliette and Le Piboul, views also extend across the surrounding communes and the Lagast.

Other hiking trails also have their own points of interest. The Chemin des Moines includes a section from Croix d'Estribes to Versailles. The Chemin le Coustil is listed in the “Monts et lacs du Lévézou” hiking guide. The Chemin des planques hiking trail offers a chance to discover the Viaur River and two former footbridges, once known as “planques”. Check trail conditions locally before setting out on the Chemin des planques.

Rando Santé on 1 May

Since 1987, Rando Santé has organised a hike every year on 1 May in Sainte-Juliette-sur-Viaur and the surrounding area. The event includes two circular routes: a shorter family route and a longer route for more experienced hikers. This gives you two options of different lengths, each intended for a specific group. The Rando Santé morning ends with a sociable drink and a catered meal; this get-together adds a convivial element to the hike.
