Exercise in town and a loop to Montréal-de-Sos
At the entrance to town, near the motorhome parking area, is the Parcours de santé de Vicdessos. Its 800 metres can be completed in about 20 minutes; several difficulty levels complement the information on distance and time. This makes it easy to plan the trail as a short, self-contained exercise session. The circular hike to Montréal-de-Sos starts at Vicdessos town hall and returns to its starting point at the village entrance.
History and art in Vicdessos and the surrounding area
The Château de Montréal-de-Sos, near Vicdessos, dates from the 13th century and is described as one of the Ariège département’s most significant Iron Age oppida. The site thus brings together a medieval castle dating and its significance as an Iron Age oppidum. The château is freely accessible year-round at no charge. The stony approach takes about 15 minutes; after severe weather, check the conditions on site.
The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption also offers a direct link to the area’s art history: the painting “Adoration of the Shepherds” is associated with the church. Together with the château, it forms a cultural focus that encompasses both a work in the church and the history of the site nearby.

Near Vicdessos, Montcalm Aventure adventure park offers 11 courses, around 100 activities and two parallel zip lines more than 90 metres long. Montcalm Aventure’s via ferrata activity is located above the mountain villages of Vicdessos, Auzat and Goulier, in a preserved glacial valley in the Pyrenees. These outings are therefore quite different from the trail in town: a guide and a reservation are part of the planning.

The Observatoire Astronomique du Val-de-Sos offers daytime and nighttime observations of planets, nebulae and galaxies. The Chemin de l’aluminium is in Auzat. The route takes one to one and a half hours on foot; it can also be completed by bicycle.
