The Cascade du Saut du Bouchot is on the Route de Gerbamont in Sapois and plunges 28 m into a valley basin. The waterfall is a distinctive starting point for a nature trip, but there is more to choose from: marked walking trails, a botanical trail, a paragliding launch site for experienced pilots, as well as a church at high altitude and a plant festival offer different points of interest. This lets you take your interest in landscapes, outdoor activities or culture into account when choosing where to stay.
Waterfall, Forest and Rock
The Cascade du Saut du Bouchot is located in a regional nature park and in a forested mountain area. La Chambre du Loup is also located in a regional nature park and in a forested mountain area. A rock cave can be discovered along the trail; the hike is a circular route on the blue-marked loop trail. The two natural attractions are therefore quite distinct: at Saut du Bouchot, the 28 m drop and the valley basin define the view, while at La Chambre du Loup, the circular route and the rock cave along the trail go hand in hand.
Walking Trails and Route-Finding
The Balade de la cascade de la Pissoire is a 4.2 km circular route with 120 m of elevation gain. It follows the red-marked loop trail towards the Cascade de la Pissoire. There is a parking area for the hike on the D23 in the hamlet of Haut-du-Tôt, behind the church. Check trail conditions locally before setting out. When choosing a route, there are different points of reference: the Pissoire loop has a stated length and elevation gain, while La Chambre du Loup has blue markings and a rock cave along the trail.
Botanical Trail to the Footbridge
A 1.8 km botanical trail leads from the parking area by the church to a footbridge. Its named destination and length make it easy to include as a separate part of your plans.
La Sotière: Paragliding Launch Site with Clear Requirements
The La Sotière launch site is at an altitude of 920 m on a meadow facing southeast. It is intended for experienced paraglider pilots with their own equipment. The landing area for La Sotière is in the Sapois valley at an altitude of 450 m. Before flying, check the technical conditions locally and follow the local flight guidance. La Sotière is therefore a clearly defined option for experienced pilots; the launch site is not a general walking route.
Church and Plant Festival
The Église du Haut du Tôt is at an altitude of 840 m and is the highest church in the Vosges département. Parishioners built it in the space of one year. Its altitude and construction history give a visit a different focus from the nature and hiking attractions.
The Fête des Plantes offers an opportunity to discover, taste and buy medicinal and aromatic plants, products made from flowers and fruit, and regional products. This adds a distinct focus on plants and local produce to the landscape and outdoor activity options. If you are considering Sapois as a destination, these different interests can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.
