Jeuxey’s history can be explored through several tangible traces: a canvas painting in the Chapelle du Souvenir, restored heritage in the village, and a walking path by the pond. Cultural history and time outdoors offer different focuses. For your stay, you can first choose whether to focus on art and historical objects or include the Les Prés du Moulin leisure complex.

Church Art and Bells

Since 1921, visitors to the Church of Sainte Menne have been able to view a canvas painting in the Chapelle du Souvenir, mounted on wood or on a wall. It is a canvas painting, not a fresco. This distinction precisely identifies the work and gives the chapel a specific point of interest for those interested in sacred art.

The church’s history also includes the surviving small bell from 1852. It weighs 519 kilograms and sounds the note G3. Its year, weight, and pitch describe this individual object from different perspectives: its historical context, mass, and sound. Alongside the canvas painting, it is another precisely dated detail of the church’s history.

Restored Heritage in the Village

You can now see Jeuxey’s historic school bell at the town hall. It should not be confused with the church bell: this is a former school object on display at the town hall. The restored Calvaries also evoke the village’s history. They were restored through cooperation between the local Association Histoire et Patrimoine de Jeuxey and the municipality.

The restored heritage also includes the historic washhouse and fountains. Water flows there again from spring onward. Another restored hand pump is on display beneath the glass roof of the entrance hall of the salle polyvalente. In this way, different traces of local history can be found in several locations.

Walking Path and Building History

Les Prés du Moulin is a sports and leisure complex for families, inaugurated in 2014. The walking path runs around the existing pond. This gives the complex a clearly defined focus for a walk outdoors; its sports and leisure designation also describes its broader purpose. Check the current condition of the complex on site.

The Ouvrage de Deyvillers offers a different historical focus. This intermediate fortification, built of reinforced concrete, was constructed between 1906 and 1910 at an altitude of 370 metres between Jeuxey and Deyvillers. Here, the focus is on the history of a fortification, not leisure activities by the pond. Depending on your interests, you can choose between a walk by the water and a subject in architectural and military history.
