Landscape and Local Life
Sainte-Marguerite lies at the confluence of the Meurthe and Fave rivers. The landscape is open and has little relief—a characteristic feature of a valley floor. This gives the description of the town a clear geographical framework. If you are considering a stay, you can choose between enjoying the landscape and taking part in specific local activities such as hiking, visiting the market, playing pétanque, exploring the heritage or making French pâtisserie. These activities offer different ways to spend your time: getting outdoors, experiencing community life or making a dessert yourself.
Wednesday Weekly Market
The Sainte-Marguerite weekly market takes place on Wednesday mornings in the town hall car park on Allée des Sports. Depending on the season, some of the regular vendors take part, so the selection may vary over the course of the year. If the market is important to your travel plans, check the local market information in advance.
Hiking the Sentier de l’Amitié
The Sentier de l’Amitié is a 10-kilometre forest hiking trail between Sainte-Marguerite and Remémont. The route is listed as having 215 metres of elevation gain. The distance and elevation gain answer different planning questions: the kilometres give you a sense of the route’s length, while the elevation gain adds a second measure. Together, the two figures can help you gauge the scale of the hike. The trail is marked with green and red crosses. Check the local signage before setting off; trail conditions may vary by season.
A Tower with Historical Significance
The tower of Sainte-Marguerite was designated a historic monument in June 1926. Remains of the former structure are still incorporated into the walls of the present-day tower. The designation and the masonry offer two different clues to the tower’s history: a specific date and a physical trace of the earlier structure. If you are interested in heritage as well as the landscape and local activities, this is another point of interest to explore.
Hands-On French Pâtisserie
Candice Bakes offers small French pâtisserie workshops in Sainte-Marguerite for beginners and experienced home bakers. At each workshop, participants make a dessert and take both the dessert and the recipe home with them. Making the dessert yourself is part of the experience; the recipe offers a culinary connection that lasts beyond the workshop. The schedule and recipes are seasonal. If you are considering a particular date, check the current offering in advance.
Pétanque with La Petite Boule
At La Petite Boule, you can play pétanque recreationally after becoming a member; participation conditions may change. The club also holds numerous competitions each year. This highlights two aspects of the club’s activities: recreational play and recurring competitions. Recreational games require membership, while the competitions are part of the club’s annual activities.
