Corcieux can be explored from several perspectives: reconstruction history and the townscape sit alongside outdoor activities and hiking destinations with scenic views. When planning your trip, one question is helpful to start with: would you rather focus on architecture, a historical trail, or a panoramic view? Each of these focuses offers a different way to discover the place.

Reconstruction and townscape

The Village de la seconde reconstruction is a particularly interesting example of post-Second World War reconstruction and urban design. It bears the “Architecture contemporaine remarquable” label. The design of the second reconstruction phase is therefore a subject in its own right, beyond simply looking at individual buildings.

At the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church, two building periods can be distinguished: it was rebuilt between 1955 and 1957 and retains its tower dating from 1715. The choir contains an oculus with a stained-glass window depicting the Assumption of Mary. The contrast in age between the rebuilt church and the older tower is complemented by another detail in the religious subject of the window.

From Place de l’église, there is a view of Corcieux’s two main streets, rue de l’Hôtel-de-Ville and rue Henry. Thus, in addition to individual buildings, two explicitly named streets also come into view.

History and outdoor activities

The Sentier des Aviateurs trail winds through nature and combines walking with discovering twelve panels about the history of Corcieux airfield and its wartime pilots. Those interested in this subject can encounter local history along the way, rather than only through the architecture of reconstruction.

Explor Games takes a different approach: the virtual outdoor game is designed as an investigation with obstacles and can be played from the age of eight. This age recommendation is a useful point of reference when planning a trip with children. In terms of content, the game differs from hiking and discovering historical panels: the focus is on a playful investigation.

Panoramas and hiking destinations

The Les Balcons de Corcieux circular trail leads to a panoramic view over the village of Corcieux and the massifs de Saint-Dié-des-Vosges. In the background are the plateau du Champ du Feu and the trapèze du Climont. The view therefore takes in both the village and the massifs, as well as the landscapes further in the distance.

At the Gravières des Grandes Nolles, information panels along the circular trail describe the site’s special features. There is also a 4 km hike starting from the Corcieux Tourist Office. When choosing between the two hiking destinations, the difference lies in the focus: Les Balcons highlights the named panorama; at the Gravières, the information panels along the trail and the 4 km hike are the specific points of reference.
