Terrats lies between the hills of the Aspres and the farmland of the Roussillon plain. Three specific highlights help put the village in context for a trip: the easy “Les Coteaux de Terrats” circular walk, the Romanesque church and its wine-related attractions. The route passes through vineyards; six themed panels introduce different grape varieties. Landscape, culture and wine are therefore among the aspects you can weigh up when planning your visit.

A circular walk through the vineyards

“Les Coteaux de Terrats” is an easy, 8.1-kilometre circular walk starting in Terrats. Its length, easy rating and circular route give the walk a clearly defined character. If you would like to combine exercise with a wine theme, you can do both on the same route: the vineyard landscape and the panels about grape varieties add a thematic accent. Trail conditions and access rules can change; check both before setting out. The information panels may also be altered or replaced over time.

Church, building history and architecture

Terrats’ Romanesque church was altered in the 14th and 15th centuries, when two chapels were added on either side of the nave. Two later restorations are recorded, in 1735 and 1767. These dates mark distinct stages in the building’s history. The Church of Sainte-Julie-et-Sainte-Baselice also houses a 16th-century silver processional cross. It is protected as a Monument historique under reference PM66000900. The church thus brings together structural changes and a specific historical object with protected status. A processional cross is a liturgical cross carried in religious processions. The term explains the object’s function. The cross can therefore be considered from two perspectives: its role in a religious ceremony and its historical dating.

La Tour Bouteillé stands out for its unusual architecture and is a striking landmark. It adds a distinctive architectural feature to Terrats’ cultural attractions. The church, in turn, offers specific information about its construction and restorations, as well as the protected processional cross as a historical point of interest. This lets you distinguish between an interest in striking architecture and a focus on the history of a church building.

Wine tourism and the winery

Vignobles Terrassous offers a wine tourism experience called “Apéro Terroir”. The network also includes a wine shop and tasting venue in Terrats. Before your trip, check whether the experience is available and the venue’s opening arrangements. The Terrats winery was built in 1932 and is still operating; confirm its operating status again before planning a visit.
