Saint-Cyprien-Plage offers a variety of attractions for a stay: a botanical garden, the Parc de la Prade nature park, the harbour, art collections and seasonal activities by the water. When planning, it helps to distinguish between these highlights: the garden and park have different things to offer, while exhibitions run year-round and events in the garden take place in summer.

Garden and park: botanical collection and natural setting

The Jardin des plantes Les Capellans was restored by the town of Saint-Cyprien in 1998 to preserve its 19th-century heritage and create a botanical garden. It is classified as a “Jardin Remarquable” (Remarkable Garden). Covering five hectares, it is home to more than 500 botanical species. Notable features include a bamboo grove, a remarkable collection of old roses, some very rare Mediterranean woody plants, and a pond with a Victoria water lily. Together, the area, the number of species and these examples give the garden a distinctly botanical character.

The six-hectare Parc de la Prade has a different focus. The nature park lies between the village of Saint-Cyprien and the beach; its three ponds are home to a diverse range of wildlife. Shady paths, playgrounds, an outdoor fitness trail and a city stadium are also part of the park. Ponds and wildlife are thus complemented by opportunities for exercise and play. Compared with the Jardin des plantes Les Capellans, this offers a different perspective on nature in Saint-Cyprien-Plage: a botanical collection there, a nature park with a range of facilities here.

The harbour and the development of the coast

The Port de Saint-Cyprien was built in 1967 as part of a major coastal development programme. Its stated capacity is 1,885 berths, including 780 marina berths. This figure gives a sense of the scale of the harbour; the stated capacity may change. Two distinct aspects help put the place in context: the year it was established as part of coastal development, and the current number of berths listed.

Art and events throughout the year

The collections of Saint-Cyprien include more than 700 works from the estate of François Desnoyer. Paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries, added through acquisitions, expand the collection. The collections feature exhibitions throughout the year, providing a cultural highlight independent of the garden’s seasonal events programme.

In summer, concerts, film screenings, guided tours and children’s workshops take place in the Jardin des plantes des Capellans. The year-round exhibitions are therefore distinct from the seasonal events in the garden. Dates and individual events may vary; if a particular concert, guided tour or workshop is important to your plans, check the date in advance.

Water sports on the beaches

Kitesurfing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking are available at Plage Nord. Two water sports clubs offer lessons and equipment hire there. The activities are seasonal; operators and seasonal schedules may change. If you are planning to take a lesson or hire equipment, check the latest information in advance.

At Plage de l’Office de Tourisme, there is a seasonal opportunity to try hydrobiking. Along with the activities at Plage Nord, this provides another water sports option, although it depends on the season and what is available at the time. Gardens, parks, art, the harbour and water sports therefore offer different reasons to choose Saint-Cyprien-Plage as a destination, without any one highlight needing to define your stay.
