To decide whether Planèzes is right for your stay, it is worth looking at the different routes and places: they range from a short local trail to a longer hiking route, as well as vineyards, riverside scenery and culture. The hikes also differ clearly in terms of length, difficulty and access to the destination.

Routes with Different Highlights

The Sentier d’Emilie is less than 1,500 metres long. The outward leg climbs and passes through La Clotade, Roque Courbe, Les Fontasses and Bac del Four Ouest. At the end, you can turn back along a gently descending path or turn left onto a hiking trail that continues for several kilometres. When choosing between the short route and the longer continuation, both the climb on the outward leg and your preferred distance are relevant.

The Route Saint-Pierre à Saint-Martin offers a different comparison: it is nine kilometres long, rated very easy and starts in Planèzes. The trail crosses vineyards to the secluded Chapelle Saint-Martin. It is privately owned and inaccessible; take this restriction into account when planning your route. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Natural Sites and Restricted Periods

The Tour de Trémoine sector spans the municipalities of Planèzes and Rasiguères and has been protected by a prefectural biotope protection order since 1991. The protection is intended in particular for the rare and especially sensitive Bonelli’s eagle. Entry to the biotope is prohibited from 15 January to 30 June. Property owners and their legal successors are exempt when carrying out ongoing maintenance on their land.

On the Agly near Planèzes is the named site Le Barrage, with waterfalls and rapids; water conditions may vary. Gourd’En Coq is also a named site on the Agly near Planèzes. Local tradition associates it with learning to swim. Both place names offer a glimpse into local connections with the river, though they do not refer to the same type of landscape feature.

Culture, Events and the History of Winegrowing

Parc Loubet de Sceaury lies southeast of the village and is freely accessible. Every July, it hosts four days of public concerts during Les Musicales de l’Agly; a film evening is held in mid-August. The Les Musicales de l’Agly festival also includes concerts and an aperitif with a tasting. Event dates and programmes may change. If you would like to plan your visit around them, check the current dates.

Several of Planèzes’ casots are closely associated with winegrowing. Some of the finest and most carefully built examples date from around 1850. The capitelles are located in the areas of Canorques, St Martin, Bac, Garouilla and Sarrat del Coll del Gabach. They are a reminder that these places were once essential to the ancestors of today’s residents.

An old cemetery was used for burials until the 1920s. Such historical connections add a distinct perspective on Planèzes’ past to the trails through the vineyards.

The Wine Route from Planèzes to Rasiguères

The Découverte du vignoble route starts at the Planèzes cooperative winery with an introduction to the different grape varieties. From there, the route leads to the Rasiguères cooperative winery, where wines from these terroirs can be tasted. This makes it possible to see grape varieties and wine tasting as two stops on the same route. As tasting availability may change, it is best to check in advance if it is important to your plans.
