Osséja lies at an altitude of 1,200 metres at the foot of the Puigmal massif and is part of the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées-Catalanes. The local attractions offer a range of experiences: a circular hike, the lake, cultural sites and a seasonal event. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you would rather spend your time on a hike, by the water or exploring the local culture.
Hiking around Osséja
In Osséja, PR 86 “La Boucle des Orgues” is a 5.4-kilometre circular hike that takes two hours and is very easy. It leads to unusual sculptures in the Catalan mountains, shaped over time by erosion. The distance, duration and difficulty provide concrete points of reference when deciding whether to choose this hike; check conditions before setting out.
The Osséja forest has 13 hiking routes. Two hiking guides are sold at the town hall. If you would like to use one for planning, check availability locally. PR 92 “La Marche des Contrebandiers” runs from Osséja along the Vanéra to Castellar de n’Hug. The two routes already differ in how they are described: PR 86 is a loop with a stated distance and duration, while PR 92 is described as a route between the named places.
The lake and seasonal activities
The lake below Osséja is a peaceful body of water with several landscaped areas, including picnic and barbecue spots. In summer, pedal boats, inflatable play equipment and a landscaped leisure area are added. Seasonality is therefore an important factor when planning: picnic and barbecue spots are among the areas described at the lake, while the additional boating and play activities are specifically available in summer. If pedal boats or inflatable play equipment are important to your trip, take this seasonal limitation into account when choosing your dates.
Art, local history and cinema
The Église Saint-Pierre d’Osséja houses a painted panel from a polyptych. The panel depicts Saint Sebastian, Saint Anthony Abbot and John the Baptist; it has been classified as a protected cultural object since 10 September 2012. A polyptych is a multi-panel artwork, so the panel is part of a larger whole. A former church in Osséja is also documented: it is mentioned as early as the 9th century, during the Carolingian period.
A permanent exhibition in honour of Daniel Delestré opened in 2026. Delestré was an influential figure in the community, was passionate about cinema and served as mayor from 2001 to 2019. The exhibition is on the first floor of the community centre, next to the cinema entrance. It is free and open to the public; check accessibility before your visit.
Le Puigmal cinema is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday. Check opening hours before your visit. Festi' lac takes place in Osséja every year during the third week of August. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the exact event dates for the year you plan to travel.
