During a stay in Lattes, you can choose from a range of interests: birdwatching along the Sentier des Tamaris, the archaeology and port history of Lattara, boating at Port Ariane, or riding activities at the Domaine de Fangouse.

Lattara’s Port History and Cultural Heritage

The ancient port of Lattara was located on the edge of the lagoon in the Lez Delta. It was in use from the 6th century BC to the 3rd century AD and was an important place of economic and cultural exchange for the peoples of the western Mediterranean. Its long history and its role as a place of exchange give its story two clear facets: its development over several centuries and its importance for economic and cultural contacts across the western Mediterranean.

The Lattara archaeological site was listed as a historic monument by decree on 28 February 2003. Since 17 September 2003, the Site archéologique Lattara – musée Henri Prades has held the designation “Musée de France.” The site’s listing and the museum’s designation refer to different classifications. Together, they highlight the archaeological and institutional focus that forms part of Lattes’ cultural profile alongside the history of the ancient port.

Birdwatching along the Sentier des Tamaris

The Sentier des Tamaris has walkways over the water and birdwatching points. These features give Lattes’ nature offering a clear focus: water and birdwatching. If you would rather make nature observation the focus of your stay than archaeology, this offers a distinct activity. The walkways and observation points shape the character of this trail.

Port Ariane: a Different Boating Experience

Port Ariane should be distinguished from the ancient port of Lattara: it is a navigable freshwater port on the Lez. It has 100 berths, including five visitor berths, as well as a lock providing access to the port. For boaters, this allocation is a practical planning consideration: the five visitor berths are part of the total of 100. Before boating, check local capacity and navigation conditions. This helps distinguish Port Ariane as a boating destination from Lattara’s ancient port history.

Riding Activities and Summer Evenings

The Domaine de Fangouse – Manade Michel Robert offers a range of riding activities. If you would like to include horse riding in your stay, it is best to check the arrangements in advance, as prior coordination may be required.

In summer, the Domaine also hosts outdoor public events: Tuesday evenings with tapas and music groups, and Thursday evenings featuring Camargue traditions. The two evenings have different focuses. If an event date is important to your travel plans, check the specific dates before your trip; the program is seasonal.
