Wine tasting, a tour of the old village and signposted trails give a stay in Fabrezan a range of different highlights.

Wine, village history and Charles Cros

Wines from the Corbières appellation are available for tasting at the Caveau Charles Cros. As tasting arrangements may change, it is best to check them in advance. This lets you plan the visit as a separate activity without assuming fixed arrangements.

The historic walking tour “Sur le chemin de notre histoire” takes you through the old village of Fabrezan and focuses on its natural and historical heritage. It offers a different focus from the signposted trails through the landscape: here, the village and its history take centre stage.

The tower in Fabrezan also tells a story of construction spanning many years. This fortified structure has major building phases dating from the 12th and 13th centuries and has been listed as a historic monument since 7 February 1951. These details provide a timeframe for learning about the site without reducing its different building phases to a single date.

The Musée Charles Cros is associated with Charles Cros, who is described as the inventor of the phonograph. Guided tours with commentary are available; to arrange one, contact the relevant representative of the association mentioned. As visiting arrangements may change, checking in advance is recommended.

Signposted trails of different lengths

The “Son Miré, les 5 éléments” route starts at the Chapelle Notre Dame de Consolation. It is 0.8 kilometres long, rated very easy and signposted with yellow PR markers. This makes it quite different in length from the longer route in the Pinède La Peyrouse. Routes and markers may change; check the details locally before setting off.

To visit the Chapelle Notre Dame de Consolation, you can collect the key from the town hall by leaving an identity card as a deposit. Confirm this procedure locally before your visit. Access to the chapel and the route that starts there are two separate points to plan for.

The sporty route in the Pinède La Peyrouse starts in Fabrezan, is 4.2 kilometres long and is listed as taking 1 hour and 45 minutes. It is also rated easy and signposted with yellow PR markers. The pine forest and the view of the Alaric shape this route description. It is worth checking the route’s current condition locally before setting off.

The two routes described differ in length and difficulty rating: the 0.8-kilometre route is rated “very easy”, while the 4.2-kilometre route, listed as taking 1 hour and 45 minutes, is rated “easy”.

Landscape and finding accommodation

The route in the Pinède La Peyrouse runs through a pine forest and offers a view of the Alaric. The ruins of the Château de Villerouge offer a different landscape view: they are privately owned, accessible only on foot and provide views from above across the Corbières plain as far as the Pyrenees. The information about private ownership and access on foot should be considered together when planning your visit.

If you would like to include a route, you can also take into account the stated length and duration of the two signposted trails.
