Circular Village and Canal du Midi

The circular village is Bram’s most distinctive historical feature. It is considered the largest and best-preserved circular village in Europe; its concentric streets bear witness to several centuries of history. The circular layout gives the townscape a connecting thread and makes the village’s structure itself a subject of history. The Canal du Midi reveals a different aspect of the landscape: listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, the canal runs through the countryside around Bram, with green banks lined by plane trees. The settlement pattern and waterscape thus offer two distinct focal points for exploration.

History, Art and Green Spaces

The church at the center of the concentric settlement is documented as far back as the early 13th century; it was given to the Abbey of Prouilhe in 1211. The Halles Claude Nougaro add another architectural accent: they are an octagonal example of the Art Nouveau style popular in 1907. The concentric streets and the octagonal shape of the Halles provide two different geometric reference points for viewing Bram’s architectural history.

A work of art and a memorial have been installed at the former site of the refugee camp at Rond-point de la Retirada. In the heart of Bram lies the wooded Parc des Essars, which covers more than two hectares and is open year-round as a public walking area. The park is home to a former manor house, where Les Essarts has served as an exhibition center for visual arts and culture since 2014. The park therefore combines a place for walks with a distinct focus on art and culture, though these need not be part of the same visitor experience.

Water Activities at Lac de Buzerens

Lac de Buzerens lies north of the town and serves as a recreation and water sports center. You can reach it via Rue des Fleurs or the northeastern bypass. At the lake, Téléski Nautique de Bram offers wakeboarding, stand-up paddleboarding and water skiing. Since summer 2019, there has been a supervised swimming area around a pontoon installed by the municipality. It is open daily from 2 to 6 p.m. in July and August. Check the seasonal swimming hours that apply to your travel dates before visiting.

From Port Fluvial to the Town Center

At Port Fluvial de Bram, Locaboat Holidays rents boats by the week or for a weekend. A combined cycling and walking path connects the port with the town center and makes it easier to reach the historic center. This describes two different ways to plan your visit: a boat rental for a week or weekend, and a cycling or walking connection between the port and the town.

Water sports and boat rentals are separate options; check the latest information from the respective operators when planning your trip.
